Title: Route to Arcadia
Post by: Tikvah on December 07, 2014, 03:26:49 AM
The map shows our intended route to Arcadia from SE Kansas.  We will have about six days to make the trip, so not a huge amount of leisure time, but we would like to enjoy a nice stop or two.

Any advice?(https://busconversionmagazine.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Ftapatalk.imageshack.com%2Fv2%2F14%2F12%2F07%2F03bdee90d5c74beaf138555448a7bdaf.jpg&hash=a67ce38def6f907300cc557340e3c0de6be9fdcc)

It would add a few hundred miles to trip but that route sucks, drop down to New Orleans enjoy the food and drive the coast much more enjoyable IMO

What sucks about that route?  I don't mind dropping down to New Orleans, but I usually avoid big cities.

I'd drop down to 98 in Pensacola then follow the coast to Perry south on 19 to 27 then I75 south - don't forget to stop in Apalachicola/Eastpoint for Oysters - HTH

Pretty much the route that I used when I returned with my bus from Florida.  Except I went over to Joplin and then down just to avoid the toll roads in Oklahoma.  A lot of two lane roads on this route but traffic was not bad at all.  If you side stepped over to Memphis, quite a bit to take a look at.

If I can make a suggestion, you might want to stay east of Tampa.  You will have more lights, but the area around Tampa is not fun in a car, I don't know how it would be in a bus.  The upside is if you take 27 you can stop at Lakeridge Winery in Clermont.

OK!
My advise.
TuLsa,OK to Ft Smith,AR to Little Rock,AR to Memphis,TN to Birmingham,AL to Montgomery,AL to Dothan,AL to Tallahassee,FL I-10 to I-75 south around the East side of Tampa,FL to Sarasota,FL east on FL 70 to Arcadia,FL
Almost all is 4 lane.
Good luck.

what Clifford and niles said....if you have trouble you can get parked and helped easier than the interstate....more camping/rv spots too...
