Title: Eaton 10sp Autoshift Question
Post by: robertglines1 on November 18, 2014, 12:12:44 PM
First time I tried to put it in gear the shifter indicator changed but no gear engagement.  Turn switch off (cut 12V supply to eaton control mod) put it in gear. Turn switch on= light on tower shows in gear and trans is in gear.  works forward and reverse/still need to shut off to put in gear. Why?       Part 2: does the clutch wire from the tower need to be hooked up to a switch on pedal?  if so is that a connection to + when depressed  or _- ground?   I have the eaton book but have not been able to figure the + or - ? out..    The 2nd part might well solve the first part of my questions. Actually I don't know enough to ask proper question...    I know several have run this set up and probably already faced or avoided these symptoms.  Bob

Bob you and I are at the same place. Jim is coming over Friday to help me start the motor. The clutch on mine did not have to be hooked up. I did put a clutch switch in the start circuit so the clutch has to be depressed to start. I have been playing with mine and I think it is shifting into neutral when I turn the key to ignition. At least the proper light comes on. I am going to jack up a wheel and make sure before we start it. Did you put the ignition interrupt circuit in? I think it is to pin h1 and h3 on the shift tower. I had it in and took it out and it seems to work ok. I could not figure what it was all about. When You shut the power to the transmission after a few seconds do you hear the the transmission go through some shift movements? When I get to the shop this afternoon I will look at the book and see if I see anything that can help you.

I had some what of the same thing mine it need the terminating resister in the wiring  at the front end @ Shift tower.
And when it power up Key on it will want to be in neutral, when it power down it will shift back in to neutral about 30 seconds after turn off. Bruce

Bob I wired mine per Eaton and it has two terminating resisters between the engine ECM and the shift tower. Bruce is much better at that stuff then me. He will help you through the wiring.
Will be able to tell you more after Friday when we try every thing.

Always make sure you put the trans in neutral before shutting off the engine. On the new UltraShifts, that's not a problem. On the older Autoshift, you can end up in gear where the trans will not come out of gear to restart.

I have been in buses with ZF Ultrashift type trans, and see why everyone prefers Allison. I drove truck for 21yrs and 1.3 million miles. I took the 13spd out of my truck and had an Allison HT740 installed. Man I wish I had that transmission when I was driving! Good Luck, TomC
