Title: ddec 2 horsepower upgrade
Post by: NJT 5573 on December 23, 2006, 05:45:01 PM
my 6V92 has a 290 hp computer setting. DD charges 500 bucks for an upgrade. thats ok,I only want to do it once though. Tom says not to turn it over 2300. Its a 1950 motor with 150 droop right now. (2100)( progressive fuel shut down after 1950). It has 60 injectors and they cost more than a complete 350 motor so they stay. the truck download is 2110, I could leave the 150 droop for 2260 but would prefer a download for 2300 with no droop so it would pull full throttle all the way to 2300. rumors have it the only way to get a 2300 download is in the marine book. thats ok with me. Ive been told the marine setting is fuel on as in full throttle all the time as you open the throttle.I think this is just what I want,as it sounds like a mechanical motor to me. Has anyone solved this? I don't want to hear about smoke as I used to have a 318! Does anyone know of an engine group or serial no that I can use to get a good download??

I have recentily had my NJT 5617 turned up to 350 hp.  I'm not sure what  program they installed, but I'm going to assume truck.  I had to convience DD that my conversion was no longer a transit bus.  They had already replaced my DDEC a couple of years ago, because I did something stupid, but the programer told that if I hadn't already replaced the DDEC he would have had to replace a prom in the DDEC before he could have programed it.  Even then they had to disconnect the DDEC to program it.  I'm not sure what RPM they increased it to, but my Eagle 20 will do 72 mph.  This is an increase ot 10 mph.  I can also tell the difference on the hills because I don't have as much speed drop as before.  The other program you may want to check is for a firetruck.

I hope this is some help.

art, did they have to drain the water and remove the water manifold to get the box out?   What did they charge you for yours?

Mine is on top of my engine.  When they programed the DDEC they removed a section of the exhaust pipe, but only for convience because the engine was hot.  I believe that my DDEC is cooled by fuel flow.  The programing cost $400.00.

I wasn't there when they replaced the DDEC, but I don't see any reason to drain the water.

I reread your message and I don't recall the cost of replacing my DDEC with a refurbished unit.  I seem to remember that the total ticket was in the area of $1800.00 but it included some other work.

Some of the ddec computers had a cooling plate. I was not aware they used the fuel to do the cooling on some. I know some models used water coolant, and if the radiators or whatever is higher they were just keeping the coolant from comming out when removing computer. The later ddec 3 & 4 does not have a coolant plate, water or fuel.   Ray
