Title: High altitude propane furnace?
Post by: FolkBus on October 28, 2014, 08:34:51 AM
Hi all

Has anyone experienced altitude issues with their propane furnace?  If so what was your fix?
Most of my boondocking is above 5000' we are currently camping at 7800' at Miramonte Res. CO.

My non turbo 8v71 runs just fine up here, just keeping my foot out of it to keep the fuel smoke down.  Going slower up hills is great for watching and enjoying the scenery.

Thats why you have an air adjustment on the burner inlet tube, just loosen the screw and adjust the sleeve for the best flame at your altitude. I live at 6000 feet and most of my boondocking is at 9000 or higher,,,no problems.>>>Dan ( This adjustment depends on which furnace you have, water heaters are the easiest)

I have an Atwood propane furnace. We go to Mammoth Lakes, Ca just about every year which is at about 8,000ft. No problems-haven't had to fool with the burner air ratio. Good Luck, TomC
