Title: adjusting free play on 1980 mci5

adjusting shaft will not turn right or left .has  adjustment  left . has a nut on the bottom of shaft that is not in the picture in the maintenance manual . thanks in advance for any help.

Presuming the adjusting shaft is the handwheel that you turn to adjust free play, figure out why it won't turn.  You need to lift the handwheel about an inch to engage the adjusting nut.  There should not be any nut that locks the adjusting threaded rod, so maybe you need to back that off.

A real good item to not screw with unless you know exactly what your doing, and would guess you do not or you would not need to ask the question.
Have been trained n the steering gear systems, years ago, bearing preload & highpoint settings, not easy to feel using words, need hands on to get the feel.

I leapt to assume clutch, since that is the only thing I adjust free play on with my 1980 MC-5C...   :o
