Hey guys,
a friend of mine just bought a bus in new jersey and he is going to pull the 6v92 out of it and sell it..
any idea what kind of price he should ask?
he also said it has a fresh rebuild, new injectors..
thanks
Ken C
Does he have proof of the work done?
he says he has all paperwork and all boxes that parts came in also
silver or red...

Hop on eBay and find some comparable engines for sale. Then watch to see if they are actually selling, or just being relisted over and over again.
Cheers, John
Ebay can give you a pretty good range of prices. Bought a whole truck with a 6V92, 10 speed road ranger trans, AC and Air suspension with 25k on the new rebuilt engine for $5,000 locally.
What are guys calling a rebuild, you just toss aftermarket liners, bearings and paint at one 3 to 5 k, a total reman engine are 15k up. A engine from a MCI is worthless for other buses with out doing major work he needs to find himself a MCI owner in need of a engine

Exactly,
I bought my truck from the mechanic who built the truck including the motor. He used it for several years then got a bigger outfit. So I have a known unit that will meet my needs for the project I am building. E bay stuff will give you an idea of what is available to compare and as stated it may be fresh paint on an old nag or you may get a full monte at full monte price. But a MCI motor still has value if only by weight at the scrap yard. $170 a ton?
200 bucks is not much if you value a 6v92 at a 170 bucks a ton for scrap prices
he said he has all the empty cartons... :o
Ok ;D

Ok ;D
my wife just asked what i was laughing about.....show me the rattle cans.... :-\
Tell him to leave it on the mounting frame, it's tempting to cut it off because you have to take the water pump off to remove it whole. But if he sells it to an MCI owner all of a sudden it's plug and play.
Brian
not sure if it matters but the engine is coming out of an 1986 Eagle .
when I said cartons.. I ment he has the boxes that the injectors came in etc..
It matters you have photos I would maybe be interested if it is a front mounted turbo engine if the price is right

me too...maybe...with jakes ?
save the miter box...
what is the injector numbers/size ?
is this a DDEC motor ?
What transmission is motorvating the coach ?
Is the coach going to the scrapper ? ???
Just wonder why he's pulling the 6V-92TA? It is a good bus engine and good for travelling. Granted, it doesn't get the fuel mileage of a good 4 stroke engine, but it is reliable and will give many years of faithful service. The 6V-92TA is one of the 2 stroke engines that are still being made for the military (along with 6V-53TI, 8V-92TA, 8V-71TA). Good Luck, TomC
Eagle owners have this thing about replacing a 6v92 with series 60,Cat or Cummins even some with the Mack V8 if wasn't so easy they would stick with 6v92 ::) I even saw one with a 903 Cummins
I will ask him for more info..
he is a military guy and the 6v92 does not have the power he wants.. so he wants to drop in a HUGE cummins
If he wants big, go with the Cummins ISX (not as tall as the NTC/N14 block). This engine has an RV rating of 650hp and 1950lb/ft torque-which ironically is the highest approved power rating of the B500 Allison. Good Luck, TomC
LOL they forget they have the drop box on a Eagle and the gearing is very limited Davenport worked around that part by using a drop box Allison 4000 series with a truck rear axle after he used up all my drop boxes ::) the 650 hp series 60 ate those boxes fwiw the boxes are not going to handle 1950 ft lbs very long
he said it does have jakes
tranny is not included in sale
the miter box will also be for sale
here is the only pic he has right now

My view on value of any DDC Engine can not be determined until you remove air box covers, pan, and blower, other wise it is only core value. about $1,500.00
I must be from Missori, show me

The miter box in that bus will only work on V6 engine just in case you guys with a V8 are looking for a miter box

Silver = Krylon reman?
no the reds were fuel pinchers...less hp sorta.
silver was betta... sorta
that's the very short story
what is a miter box and what does it do?
A mitre drives the fan, alternator and Ac compressor on older Eagles your 89 model could be different and use the hyd fan setup
