Title: TV antennae
Post by: Jim Eh. on September 22, 2014, 07:40:26 PM
Do most American cities have digital OTA (over the air) broadcasting? Looking at Brusier's bus pic in the paint thread with the antennae up reminded me to ask.

I swear by the Wingard Batwing that you crank up when using. It pulls in signals better than any other antenna I've tried. Digital works just fine. Good Luck, TomC

There is only digital OTA broadcasting in the US now, almost all analog stations are gone except for some tiny ones.  You might get from 3 to 30, depending on where you are.  Still quite directional, so a directional antenna that can be turned is usually better than an omni-directional.  I use the Winegard batwing with the add-on thing, and it's better than the home antenna that I tried on my house.  If the new one is better yet, then it's good indeed.

Edit.  TV signals are pretty much line of sight, so the added height of a roof-top crank up unit may have an advantage over a window-mount one.  Also don't like the idea of having to try different windows to see which one is better.  But if you don't want a permanent install, the new one may be for you.

We bought one.  Tried to use it on this trip once, but no luck.  You have to be within 40 miles of the broadcast tower.  If everybody has cable where you are, you are probably past that 40 mile limit.
