We are finally headed south to Texas after a much longer than expected stay in the Northwest. It is gorgeous up there. Driving on the road for 4-5 hours at a time gives me lots to think about while the wheels are rolling. Especially since I get to listen to all the sounds and feel all the vibes Mack (our bus) is giving me.
1st thing - I finally found what was making the noise in the fan from a previous post here - http://www.BusConversions.com/bbs/index.php?topic=26549.0 (http://www.busconversions.com/bbs/index.php?topic=26549.0)
There was a long line of thin (copper?) tubing that started in the engine bay went along the frame and then down to the ground just past the fan. It had a zerk on one end and a piece of rubber hose on the other. It had come loose and was vibrating against the fan. Best guess is that it was to put grease in or on something from the back of the bus. Removed it and the noise went away. Now I gotta figure out what it was greasing.
2nd - When we were at the garage we greased everything we could get our hands on including the fan (motor?) And now the bearings in the fan are starting to make noise. Its only occasional and there is no overheating at all (just pulled deadmans pass the other day and it stayed right at 200 the entire time) I'm hoping it will make it to Texas before I have to pull it and get it rebuilt. Do they sell a rebuild kit for these? Is it just a matter of replacing the bearings and a few springs?
3rd - If your Kingpins are completely worn - what indications do you get from driving the bus? What noises, vibrations are a dead ringer for worn out Kingpins? I'm pretty sure these are on there last legs. Its on the to do list. I'm just wondering if those are contributing to some of the vibes I'm getting
4th - Turbo Rebuild - What's the name of the place down down in Nevada(By Lake Havasu?) That rebuilds/sells turbos? Are there any other good Turbo shops? Ill need to cross ship the Turbo as I can't have downtime waiting to ship out rebuild and then send back. Ill have to get one shipped and then ship the old core back after the rebuilt Turbo is installed.
Thanks as always. You guys rock. Hope to see some or all of you at Arcadia.

If i understand correctly...
there are two remote lube lines in the vicinity of the radiator fan;
one to grease the fan hub bearing
one to grease the idler pulley bearing pivot for the fan belt adjustment eccentric
one (the fan hub) being slightly more critical than the other...stop now and repair this.

Thanks Don. Ill check it today before we leave....if nothing else Ill climb in there and make sure they are greased. The one line we took out looked like an after thought. It was hanging by some old zipties.

You sure it is the fan hub and not the mitre box or pillar block bearing all are easy to rebuild with bearings and seals off the shelf and a good puller the fan hub is a bitch to remove fwiw it comes out from the radiator side if the fan has any side way or up or down movement without the engine running there you go
checking the two bearings i mention may or may not be the ones that the dangling hose/tube went to...but the two bearings not checked/greased are probably the two that will cause the most grief on that bus if they aren't and are.
checkum Dano ;D
Don -
So I got up under there and checked....I could only find the one tube that goes into the main fan which is there and globs of fresh grease coming out when I lube it. The second is the smaller pulley which is also greased as should be.
Cliff - I'm 99% sure its the fan. It could be the tensioner pulley but its definitely not the mitre box. There is no side or up and down movement on the fan. Its solid in place.
Here is a pic for reference -

the errant tube may have been something related to a clutch that you do not have anymore irrc.
