I just purchased 4104-3856 and I would like to see if there is any history that I am missing. The seller was told when he purchased it that the bus originally came from the Santa Fe Bus Company and it was purchased to be used as a trainer bus. If this is incorrect or there is any more info I would love to hear about it.
Thanks
Jim
I don't about it being a trainer it was part of a 9 bus order to the Santa Fe railroad I read but RJ will know for sure
I was thinking that it was a bus used to bring passengers to the railroad I found a writeup from the ebay listing that said it as "Train Bus program", maybe he stated it incorrectly or I misunderstood.
Thanks!
I thought they were used to haul passengers from the depot to the Santa Fe resorts in CO don't know for sure RJ will .
I don't know what the number it was but there was one at the Santa Fe head quarters in Winslow Az for years now it is gone I don't have any idea where it went but it was seated kinda a executive coach and ran it still had the little Continental gas engine for the AC that worked, it was a clean 4104 all original I would liked to had it
Jim -
PD4104-3856 was delivered new in May of 1958 as fleet number B-153 to The Atchison, Topeka & Sante Fe Ry System, HQ'd in Chicago, IL at the time.
Back then, Santa Fe, as well as several other railroads, had quite a few feeder routes to their main rail lines. Conceptually similar to what Amtrak's doing today. (What's old is new?)
As to your coach's actual usage for AT&SF, I have no clue. However, it wouldn't make sense to use a brand new coach specifically for training purposes on a regular bases. Nearly every coach company will have some sort of orientation class for staff when a new coach model hits the property, but that will normally only last a week or two. After that, it's into revenue service to earn it's keep.
FWIW & HTH. . .
;)
Anyone have the history of 4228 that I found today?
Thanks RJ.
Jim,

Thanks. I will let him know and maybe I can convince him to actually do something with the bus.
