Title: Rear engine door
Post by: Beesme on September 06, 2014, 05:21:00 AM
I just bought a rear r&m fiberglass door that came off a 78 buffalo . The height is right but I think it is slightly narrower than my 4106 ( the door that is). Do any of you know for sure ? The steel work is rotted so I ground rivets and removed . So of course I am going to grind rivets off my door . Well I guess the question is.I'm probably gonna have to fill edges to fit and don't know if I should wait till end of season . Uno a time thing ! Thanx for any thoughts!

Oh nothing is wrong with mine much. Just a couple small holes around the lights and where my struts are mounted 2 very small wear thru holes . But I like the looks of the r&m  and it has new lights ! I haven't wanted to change looks much especially front lights .im still giving it thought ! Prob just as much work to fix what I have so I'm not sure yet . I only paid 50$ for the rear door with lights .so I guess I won't get hurt either way uno?

$50 sounds like a good bargain,  really can't lose on that.
I really like the look of the stock rear door on our 4905 but the steel frame has rust.not sure if I should try and fab a new frame or just try and find one

Mark,

The frame on my rear door is all rusted through at the bottom too.  I am going to have a guy fabricate a partial frame for me, and splice weld it in.  He builds race car chassis for a living, but right now is "otherwise entertained" here with me in Afghanistan replacing concrete that airplanes park on.

Mine won't get done till the December/January timeframe.  I'll shoot you a PM when I have a scope/price for the work.

I wonder why the buffalo door frames rust out  ? Or do the 4106 also rust out ? Just curious if there was some kind of change made . My 4106 door frame looks like the day it came from gm. Well I guess the po could have had it remade . Just an observation . I sure do like the buffaloes I almost bought one . Well uno how it is I like all busses lol see ya
