Title: Can anybody fix a Xantrex Inverter/charger
Post by: BlakeWright on August 21, 2014, 02:45:45 PM
I have a Xantrex Prosine 2.5, 24 volt inverter/charger with the ACS remote panel.  The inverter section works fine, but it doesn't charge.  What appears to be happening is that the remote panel voltage reading is about 4.2 volt higher then the actual battery voltage (i.e. the battery is at 26.0 volts and the remote reads 30.2 v) and when the Prosine goes into charge mode it tries to bring the battery up to say 28-29 volts, but the Prosine is reading 4 volt higher and it now thinks the battery voltage is 32-33 volts and shuts down the charger with an error "Battery Voltage Too High".   (The high limit is 32 volts, which I can't seem to change.)

Has anyone seen this problem?

There is no soft-ware down load for this unit, so if the problem is in the soft-ware, I am out of luck.

If it is in the hardware, hopefully someone can help me.

The factory just quoted the trouble shooting items from the manual and said if that didn't work the unit would have to be replaced.

Find a schematic for it, then contact me. Must have schematic (road map) or I can't find my way home. Gerry H

Blake -

We had one of those with a different issue but similar as it was related to the charging side of the inverter.  We took it apart and looked at the circuit board and I believe it was a capacitor or three that went out on the board.  In our case it was a lot of other parts and pieces that went when the capacitor blew.  It was something given to us and we decided it was better to just buy something new instead of fixing something old.  Xantrex no longer makes or services parts to those older models.  Might be best to take it to a circuit/soldering guru who can take a look at it.

Call this number 800-670-0707 to find a repair center near you. First thing I do any time I come across a Xantrex that's malfunctioning is disconnect all power and unhook the battery cables for 4 hours. I know the service manual says something like 20 minutes or so, but my dealer tech support won't even talk to me unless I have already done a 4 hour pulldown.
