Title: 1964 4106 Driver's side windshield wiper
Post by: Cosmo on August 10, 2014, 06:42:20 PM
As I'm in the process of getting this bus together came across a problem. Looks like the bottom threaded piece of the driver's windshield wiper arm has been snapped off. The PO had placed a flat washer over it and welded it in place. Works in a pinch, but I want it right. So not knowing, can I replace that piece or do I need to replace the whole wiper motor? Either way I need to find a replacement. Anybody out there have a spare? I know this is helpful, it's air driven. Also would be willing to trade a complete set of splash aprons for an "06" if you're interested. Thanks!

If the wiper motor is air powered, this would be a good time to convert to a two motor electric. I did that and the two motors are synchonized electronically to each other so they stay in time. I really like the adjustable intermittant feature. Good Luck, TomC

I have a one motor set up that I had to do some engineering on.  No I am not an engineer and I don't even pretend to be one on tv.  Came out of a semi truck and works great.

Tom part numbers? Thought about doing that, but figured it would be as easy to replace.

Rick -

Easiest way to solve the problem is to call Luke in NJ: 1-888-262-2434

Or maybe Larry might pull the one off the coach you just snagged parts of.

These Sprague motors are extremely dependable, and usually only need a squirt of lube every fall to keep them operating at their peak.  They also work well in snow, where sometimes electrics will overheat.

If, as a future project, you wish to switch to electric, Autex is one brand that's commonly used.

FWIW & HTH. . .

As I am always learning, what I'm looking for is the bracket that has the idler arm attached to the bracket. Talked to Luke, there are a lot of brackets out there with minor changes but critical to get the right one. Asked me to send him my old one to match up. Also there is an outfit in west Kansas that has one or repair the one I have, again must ship the old one. I have options, so it's going to get repaired, Ed in OKC told me to bring down my old one and he should have a replacement.  Trim ring came in today and I chased the threads, thanks. Very nice, going to OKC this coming Friday to my chrome shop and drop them off. I'll get a bracket from Ed then since I will already be down there. Was looking to trade a splash apron for the bracket. It all worked out.

If someone has a 4106 parts manual, run the bracket part number at Mohawk bus parts. Maybe it is still available. I don't know whether the 4905 is the same.

Cosmo,

The part number for that bracket is 2422014. It is, of course, discontinued.

No luck at Mohawk's website.

Looks like a used one or repairing yours may be your only options.

I got the parts that I needed to repair my idler arm thanks for all the advice. Moving forward on the tail light front. Getting the trim rings chromed and found some NOS lens  from the Tail Light King out of Texas. Just need to clean up the rat nest of wires!
