It will be very helpful if you list a name (just first name if you'd prefer that), your home base, and your current location.
Luke is going to be your best bet he may have outlet now,Nelson hasn't made that muffler in 25 years the Y at the bottom it sits on is even harder to find now
good luck
Can you post a picture of what it looks like?
We are new to all this . How do we contact Luke?
I haven't a clue how to post a picture? Sorry.
1-888-262-2434 may not reach him on Fridays
Thanks.
Unless you are running the original N55 injectors, the original muffler is really stuffed up. Making a new exhaust system out of a better flowing muffler-like 5" will better facilitate pushing the engine up to 65 or 70 injectors.
When I turbo'ed my engine, I discovered very shortly that the big stuffed up muffler (even though it was 5") didn't flow. I went with a Donaldson 5" oval with inlet and outlet on the same end that is rated for turbo. Now has a nice exhaust tone to it and it actually runs cooler. Good Luck, TomC
We are not turboed but like the idea that it runs cooler. APPRECIATE YOUR INFO

Please take a couple minutes to update your profile with more information so that we can better help you! There may be a busnut in your own back yard, so to speak, that can direct you to local sources for parts & service. An example is the signature line here at the bottom of my post.
Simply click on Profile in the menu bar, then Forum Profile Info in the drop-down LH menu and follow the prompts. At least a first name, home base city/state, coach make/model & powertrain goes a LONG way towards helping us help you.
Be aware that you don't have to have "exactly" the OEM muffler to pass inspection. Most "inspections" simply require a muffled exhaust system, thus almost any style will fill the bill. So-called "turbo" mufflers are designed specifically to be downstream of a turbocharger and generally have very little internal restriction for increased flow in addition to decent sound dampening qualities. As TomC mentioned, Donaldson is one of the major suppliers, poke around thru this catalog link to find something that will fit:

Welcome to the madness, btw!!
FWIW & HTH. . .

That is the TRUTH about freeing up the exhaust, Many have eliminated the muffler and replaced it with a resonator IF YOUR TURBO'd, sure makes for much cooler bedroom and does add noticable improvement in getup & go.
The key is if you have the turbo, a non turbo would not be good for the noise factor.

I would try and find a used GM muffler those things are not fun to try and refit another muffler in that space with the Y at the bottom and very expensive new a friend of mine had a new muffler and wye with the clamp he sold for 1500 bucks. If I remember right it has a 6 or 7 inch inlet from the Y flange ::) BTDT

Yo 62 4106!
Here's a quote from Tom. I'm using this muffler, it's a tight fit, but it works. It's not a plug in play, but a good welder can get it done in less than a day.
Donaldson part number- M120131. 5" inlet and outlet same side, 10"x15" oval, 30" long over all, 30lbs. It's not a quiet muffler-really rated for turbocharged engines, but it does put out a nice sound. Good Luck, TomC
Good information. We really needed that. Thanks for your help.
Nelson equivalent = 86116M (36" long) or 86121M (26" long)
Seems to me re fitting a non GM muffler in than area if one didn't keep the piping almost the same the way it as OEM stuffed in the fan and radiator area would cause heating problems on a 4106. The OEM is a unique muffler they don't seem like they get all that hot because of the design and it's a heavy sucker ::) for a muffler
A metal fabrication shop should be able to make a replacement if old one has enough of original material left.
Questions:'re Donaldson #M120131 5" oval muffler, TomC mentioned about a days work of welding, what exactly is involved?
I have stock crossover pipe and collector. Can we use these parts or fabricate new ones, or modify stock parts, etc. ??
Still looking for stock muffler, since it would be bolt-on and go.
Appreciate all the help. It has been very beneficial.
I have seen several 06 mufflers that have had the top removed and mods made to them, you haven't said WHY your can't pass inspection, (too loud, leaks, holes,) all these can be repaired.>>>Dan
Been repaired for years. Now beyond repair.
My exhaust system uses u-bolt clamps and stainless band clamps. I didn't weld anything. Some pipes are made in one piece with various bends, but the pipes are connect together with stainless band clamps. Then you can take it apart again if needed. Good Luck, TomC
Located used stock muffler: Luke (at U S Coach) came through again.
THANKS to every one who posted.
Good old Luke he always come thru one way or the other
Luke is the man!
So staying with the stock stuffed up muffler. At least it is quiet. Good Luck, TomC
Just for reference, you can attach the Donaldson 5 incher without welding, just as Tom C is doing. I've done the same thing without issues. I ended up fabricating the same lip that the OEM muffler uses, then welding that to the Donaldson. That setup gives me the same attachment method as the OEM muffler uses. It's just a bit more secure than using band clamps.
Others have welded the Donaldson to the vee collector. I would hate to consider the amount of time and effort to remove that setup. It's tight to begin with!

I changed manifolds and had new pipes bent to install dual exhaust on Jame's 4106 they were switched to the passengers side sounds good but wasn't a easy deal 3 days it took us
Donaldson makes a number of style 5 mufflers, which are the ones with inlet and outlet on the same end. That one is the lowest restriction and the loudest, they have others that are quieter. That catalog can give you some good ideas, but you may have to do some fabricating to make something fit. That catalog should also have a selection of Y's, elbows, Tee sections, all sorts to help you out.
