Title: My New Bus
Post by: Scott Crosby on July 09, 2014, 02:01:41 PM
I picked up a 1947 3751.  This past weekend I drove it from North Carolina to Indianapolis.   It needs a Little TLC on the mechanical side.  It's in really good mechanical condition considering it's age.  It has a few electrical issues that need to be sorted out.  The conversion will need a lot of updating but it's going to be a fun project.  I hope to have it done in time for Blytheville next year.

My wife was very clear that 2 buses is the limit.   There will not be a #3.

Scott, is that the 3751 that was recently listed on busnut BBS ?  Is that why nobody answers my calls about it ?

Yes Edward.   I went out right away to pick it up.   It was a steal as far as I was concerned.

Scott - Love that bus.  I just had a chance to see Boomers Silversides up here in Vancouver, WA.  Talk about sexy.  Lots of potential in that there bus.  Have fun!

Yes, Scott, it was a steal. . . at the price asked, I was concerned that the owner was thinking about the scrap yard.  I'm really glad.  You scored for all of us IMHO.

What is it about owning a bus that makes you want to go out and buy more? Ours is barely two months old and I still catch myself looking at classifieds.... :o

Bus looks awesome! Congratulations!

Was this coach from Weaverville N C by any chance?? The reason I am asking ,a customer of mine tried to give me a 3751 four or five years ago.I wouldn't take it because I didn't have a place to store it while I worked on it.He wound up giving it to his brother but his brother got caught up in a vidio gambling scandal along with our former shereff and some others .I have since retired and have lost track of my customer ,but have often wondered what ever became of that old Silversides.

Is this like the guy that that got married two months ago and keeps looking at other girls, thinking perhaps he may have done better? Good thing your current bus cannot slap you upside the head in a fit of jealousy with its mirror!
:D

Bigred, It was 50 miles nw of Charlotte.   The owner passed away from cancer a couple years ago.  I'm guessing he was younger based on that he left behind a young wife and very small child.  Last name Jackson I believe.

Mex - www.busgreasemonkey.com (http://www.busgreasemonkey.com) is my site.

Clifford that's a bum wrap that those  2 (of 4) dogs took! Gary "baited" them by leaving 2 #'s of cooked bacon out on a low table in a bus w/door open!
Those 2 dogs have always checked out any bus w/door open as they were brought home on a bus when they joined our family.

Luvrbus I need a window and frame for the 3751.  The previous owner had a piece of plywood over a window, I just assumed it was covering broken glass.  Well I took it off to go to the glass shop today and disassembled it.  Well he used a saw to cut out both sides of the frame.  I don't get why he did it, but none the less it's ruined.

Let me know a price if you have one from the one you are parting out.

Not adding anything to the conversation, but it's B-E-A-UTIFUL! Wow, there is just something about the older buses! Could stare at the picture for a long time.

For those of you that don't follow the project on my site, it's coming along nicely.  It's been quite a fun and exciting project.  Here is an updated Instagram pix from yesterday.

It's been very entertaining to say the least.   Some of the more memorable moments have been funny things like finding a joint and rolling papers, painting the roof with buskote only to have the rain wash it away the next morning, finding a 70's porn stash and lots of other fun little discoveries.  The interior is nearly completely stripped at this point.
