Anybody know of a good repair shop in Billings Mt. besides Interstate Power Systems?
Andy Wright use another shop in Billing besides Interstate I will PM Andys number to you
Thanks Clifford.
Ed, what's wrong?

She started smoking on us again and now is also making oil.
Ed my 8-71 in my MC-7 was making oil also, I had the oil checked and they found fuel in the oil. Pulled the valve cover and found a cracked fuel return line.
Gary
White smoke it probably dropped a valve or broke a liner and is just pumping raw fuel into that cylinder because of no compression
good luck
Wouldn't call it white, more like a blue/light blue.
Will find out on Monday what the problem is.
That old girl didn't like leaving Yuma huh ;D
No problem leaving Yuma, i think that she just felt that all of the other buses were getting all of the attention and she felt left out so it was her turn! ;D
Ed - let me know who you find, will be passing through there in a few days and I might get some light work done.
Thanks.

Going to be using Interstate after all, the other guy that Andy told me about is too busy right now to take on anybody else.
maybe Interstate could be induced to advertise in BCM.
:-)
Ed,or Andy.. beings your going to be hangin there awhile check this alignment shop out for me..Jim and Tracys alignment on 1st ave south..heard they have done a good job on a Eagle or two..
I will check them out Matt and let you all know.Thier right down the street.
Matt tried to call you, did you change # I stopped by and talked to the guy at the shop, real nice and can do you right He asked that you give him a weeks notice as they are real busy here's the # 406-2597150.Jim and Tracy's
He needs a 3 axle alignment by now only problem he will have is the rear alignment bars the numb nuts in Or welded the nuts on the bar after they made a splice on the passengers side to remove the drop box that pissed me off big time
I have the new bars here for it I just keep forgetting it when Matt is here ;D I don't forget really I just didn't want to install the things for him. Andy what do you want me to do with all this Model 10 brakes and front end parts they arrived today lol
Andy, glad you stopped by the shop for Matt. I was going to do it but i didn't know how much good it would do since i don't speak "Eagle"!!! ;D
I hope your kidding Clifford ? I never heard anything form Don and I thought he forgot. won't do me much good know lol . I'm sure someone can use them.
Ed what did you find out about you motor?
Nope he didn't forget lol we both almost got a heat stroke unloading the stuff I told him you sold the Eagle
Won't know anything until sometime on Monday, it goes into the shop first thing in the morning. May not have internet for a few days depending on what happens.
Any news?
They are probably still trying to bring ED around with smelling salt if it is a serious problem ::)
He probably caught the guy pouring the extra oil in his motor, And that ain't gonna be pretty when he gets done with him!.... ;D :o
Dave
I hope he just has a bad injector or broken fuel line retired full time people don't need major engine problems in these buses only to be left at the mercy of a outfit like Interstate
Update..... yup dropped a valve. They are in the process of pulling the engine right now, hope to have it out today, then will tear into it to see if/how much damage there is. Could probably use a barrel or two of your worthless money about now Clifford! ;D Probably gonna be here for a few weeks. Gonna run up to the shop right now and see how it is going.
Bummer Ed I thought that was the problem but was hoping for a lesser evil for you
good luck
Sorry to hear that Ed, keep us updated.
Gary
Hey Ed that sucks, I have moved out to a friends house with the Coach but if you need something you have my #. Sorry Man
All the best Ed. I wish I was closer to help you.
JC
Thanks guys, we are fine and it is just another little speedbump, or pothole, in the road of life! ;D
Hey Ed, Been there, I hate that hopeless feeling. I'll be praying that it's "minor". You and Stevey have had many challenges and you seem to always rise to the occassion. Here's hoping.
Ed,hope you guys have really great parkin lot to live in like we have at Kaiser's....
Sending the motor positive thoughts. Keep your eyes opened, the Wife says everything happens for a reason!... ;D
Dave
Mike, hoping its minor but planning for major. Matt, we opted for a motel this time. Dave, thanks for the thoughts. Don't think they got it out today, it was an hour before quitting time when we were there and he was having issues with a bolt or two or a couple of connections not co-operating.....only talked for a minute as i did not want to hold him up.
Sorry to hear that Ed. Hell, just drop in a new hole and reman head and keep on truckin'. Best of luck.
I am with you Boomer old school but has been done that way for 75 years, I would have never let them pull the engine JMO it probably will cost Ed 1000 bucks for that outfit to pull the engine. Most of the time when a outfit gets one one floor you can put your head between your legs and kiss your @$# and wallet good by ::)
No offense but, Maybe these things( which are great advice) should have been said as advice when Ed said ," they are going to pull the engine tomorrow" instead of after they already have. Just saying!... ;)
If that is ever me please say those things earlier, LOL
Clifford he already asked you for a bucket of your worthless cash, And have you sent that yet, No I would imagine Not!...
Dave
Dave, he know how to reach me if he needs help,he never ask about pulling the engine ??? they probably told he could not remove the head without doing it ::)
GM's and I think some MCI's may be like vw's. It is easer to pull the engine to do any work.
I know that you cannot get to the back head on huggy with the engine in .
uncle ned
Clifford just razzin yas! I know if it is like mine you can't take anything off without removing the engine IMO but then I am pretty big and don't fit, LOL ;D
Dave
It is the drivers side that lost the valve, on my 5A the 4 air filters and housing are in the way.....not a lot of room in the 5s anyway. Stopped by at noon, (almost 2 now) and they had it out and said to come back at 4 and they will have it apart and we will be able to see what we need to do. Hoping it is just the one hole and a reman head situation. Dave, it would probably cost me more to have a bucket or barrel of Cliffords worthless cash shipped to me, than what he could put in it! ;D Clifford, i have kissed my a$$ goodbye more than once in my life and i don't carry a wallet anymore, just a money clip. :D I am prepared for the worst and if it turns out to be less then that will be fine.
How many miles is on the engine Ed I thought it was low mileage or a fresh rebuild when you got it ? Those engines are not bad about dropping valves unless the bridge adjustment is off or it breaks a bridge stand and most of the time that it is caused by human error
good luck hoping the best for you
It has close to a hundred thousand miles Clifford.
100,000 miles you shouldn't need much a new liner and piston ,new injector, maybe a rebuilt head if it screwed the head .Did they say if you had the old style block or new style if you have the old style don't throw much cash at it I have a late model block I will give you maybe I even have a set of liners with low hours for it
good luck
Ed -
The shop that's working on your coach is the same one that Chris & Cherie ended up at when their engine overheated last year.
Altho it took awhile, and they opted for a complete, out-of-frame overhaul, they were extremely pleased with the work IPS did on their coach. Scot the service manager and Jaime the technician/mechanic were given high marks for their dedication and work ethic. So if these two guys are involved with your coach, you should be in good hands. (Heck, mention to Scot that Chris & Cherie with the GM bus recommended his shop & see what the reaction is. . .)
Should you want some reading material while the coach is in the shop, here's their tale (oldest post is at the bottom):

;)
Oh goodness.. sorry you've ended up at one of our favorite campgrounds last year. The folks there are great.. tell Scot, Jamie, Larry and Steve hi for us :)
And, if you're still there come end of the month, we'll probably be seeing you as we pass through for our annual inspection in a couple weeks.
*hugs to you both*
RJ, I knew the C&C were here last year and i mentioned that to the folks right off of the bat. Also followed their story at the time. C&C looks like we might still be here by the time you get here.....mentioned to them that you were slowly headed this way. :) Been talking a lot to Larry and Scot. Clifford, they were going to get the numbers off of the block this morning.....may be going for a full rebuild as the head is bad, the piston is chewed up, the cam is bad, in fact they pulled the other head to see how things look there and that cam has a bad spot too. There are other things too, just don't recall all of it this morning. Will be talking to them again later today.
Cliffored, what year did the blocks change from old style to new style?
72 or 74 I forgot which the one I have is 82 model
good luck
Ok, thanks for the info.

Looking into doing regular engine oil analysis and I'm wondering just how well analysis is at catching this sort of thing. In other words, have you folks with many miles of experience found that it makes a real difference ?
edward
It must be open season on the 2 strokes and buses,Larry Hall lost his engine in his 4106 it filled it with water cracked the head and bent a rod he came and got the parts,Melvin lost his 8v71 in his Eagle Wednesday he is on way for parts,Darrel lost his 8v92 in his MCI he headed here for 2 heads another guy is looking for a 740 ,then I have a 8v92 from Ar here to rebuild
I feel for you guys I really do this $#!% get expensive and Don and I are running out of parts ::)
good luck
JMBlake has a 740 for sale in the parts section of the board.
Thanks Ed I gave them Jasons contact only problem with that transmission it is from a fire truck and will require a little adjusting and a new torque converter for a bus with a 8v92 TA the price is right though 700 bucks
I have a 740 from my eagle I could sell.
Don
Call me Don
Clifford I just called and left a message.
Don
Ed, sorry to hear about your engine problems, Let me know if I can help in any way, I have a couple of rebuildable military 8V71's if you need an engine, might be better than buying camshafts heads and what ever else you may need.
Don

Thanks for the offer Don. It looks like we have everything worked out unless something unforeseen comes along. :) I do have a question or two for you though,.....where is your new shop going to be at and when will you be open for business? Ed
Ed as of now I am still in Bako but am heading for Wyoming this Friday, I will be looking for a job out in the oil fields. If that does not work out I will return home and start rebuilding injectors for the high pressure common rail systems. IE, Ford Cummins and GM Durmax I have to make a living some how.
Don
LOL are there any fly rods involved in the job hunting let me know if the fishing is good I'll join you but I am not interested in finding a job ::)
Good luck on the job search. If you have to go back home and rebuild injectors, are you also still going to do engine work and/or install jakes for folks that need them? Looks like my fishing plans for NW Mt. are out the window now, may have to shorten our loop this year to cut down on our fuel use and start slowly heading south towards Yuma. :(
Clifford I will meet you in Vegas on Friday we can have a burger then hit the road. You and are welcome to come along. I am taking my fly rods and yes I will do some fishing.
Ed, Where I am now I can't work on buses but I can rebuild an engine or two if some one brings the engine to me out of the bus or truck or whatever.
Don
Ed maybe you could ship it down to Don in the back of the tow Bus (Wink)and help him unload it there out of the "foot-loose tow company rig"!......
Just trying to help :o
Dave
Ed
Any updates how is it going. When are you going to be mobile.
Gary
Going slowly......they were told that one of the heads would be on back order. Turns out today both of them are on back order and we are #12 on the list. May have found a set locally, waiting on a call back on price. Also have to see what we can work out on warranty coverage. Probably at least a week, maybe two before we hit the road again......
Check with http://www.midwestdieselservice.com/ (http://www.midwestdieselservice.com/) for any parts your having trouble with!
The old man that runs the place once told my dad "If we don't have it, it's only because my wife doesn't know it exists!"
If you don't believe me how many parts he has ask Don Fairchild. Don says they now sell parts back to
to Detroit!
;D BK ;D
Hi Don, hope to see you friday in LV, wish you would take up residency here in town, you and Clifford both, the whole world passes thru here, many driven by old DDs, rent a space from Gary Bennet, it would be the western old bus central, tom, lvmci...
They found a set of heads somewhere, supposed to be here today. :)

;D BK ;D
Tell those guys to call Baker Machinery in Higley Az 480-988-1187 if they ever need heads they are a authorized Detroit Diesel parts re builder and furnish the same warranty as required by DD.
They do all of WW Williams machine work on all Detroit's their shop looks like a doctors office,it would be interesting to see the price but I am not asking I know what Mark charges Let me know if they charge you a $$$$ core charge for the cracked head I have plenty and can ship you a rebuildable head it's just a offer to help you save a few bucks
good luck
Thanks Clifford, i will keep that in mind. :)
