Title: Got my muffler and exhaust changed yesterday
Post by: belfert on July 06, 2014, 07:23:22 AM
I changed out my muffler and exhaust changed yesterday.  I discovered last year that the tailpipe coming off the muffler was rusted down basically to nothing.  Looking at the muffler it wasn't much better.  The hardest part of the whole project was getting the connection from the turbo down tube to the muffler tight.  I finally ended up replacing the old exhaust clamp with a new one and everything tightened right up.  (The old clamp wasn't that old as it was replaced when I got the bus.)

I do still need to figure out how to hang the tailpipe as I used a slightly different tailpipe to save money.  Luckily, almost everybody in the neighborhood was gone for the 4th so I could run the generator for power.  (Don't have a plug-in for bus right now.)

If you are using a preformed lap joint clamp, they are really only design for a single use. A small dab of hi temp silicone around the connection will be a great help to lubricate the clamp material and allow it to "slide" around the entire circumference of the pipe easier and more evenly.
