Title: Slack Adjuster
Post by: Cary and Don on June 26, 2014, 11:22:14 AM
Well, this isn't going very well.  It took most of the day to get the thing jacked up, the wheels off, the brake drum off, and then the slack adjuster off. Off to Napa we went. No luck.

Now can't find the slack adjuster anywhere.  So we are looking for a new slack adjuster.  Bendix 282560. Curb side drive axle.  Off set arm. Off set to the left of the adjuster bolt.  Bendix doesn't have them, Meritor doesn't have one. Jefferson's is looking for one in their stuff.

If it was a gm04 and you were in north carolina I would fix you up.

My good friend "Dave Bullock" gave me a box of new ones before he passed away.

Thank you so much.  Going to make some calls tomorrow morning.   I called all the big companies and they just kind of laughed. Obsolete.  Called Jefferson,  they had one ........ $179.00. That one looks just like it, but it has to have the 6 1/2" hole. The number matches. Hopefully they really do have them in stock. $36 sounds a lot more like it. Otherwise, it's going to be $179.

I replaced the slacks on the front of my 5C a couple years ago. I thought they were going to be $40 or so. Until I realized they had to be offset like yours. They cost around $170 each or so. Ah, the joys of bus ownership!

Sean,  Frankie is really nice to do business with.  Wasn't any cheaper, but he is getting it right out.  We will keep his number for other Eagle parts. He sent photos to make sure it was the same.

I contacted all the web links.  No  luck with any of them.  They will be removing them from their web pages.  It seems they drop ship mostly. Van Horn did really try to find one, but no luck.

That Meritor adjuster is the one that one place found.  But the clevis hole is 5 1/2" instead of 6 1/2". At least the thing is on it's way.

You can always drill the rivets out and replace the inside gear and adjustment bolt on the adjusters fwiw

Don did you try Capital Clutch and Brake in West Sac. They had my DD3's which no one else carries now and pretty much every valve I have needed.

Dave,  That was the first place we tried.  They also called Bendix without any luck.  Capitol said the last ones they sold were in 2006 and had been returned.  I told the guy they must still be there someplace.  LOL He wasn't into looking for them.

Clifford,  We got the old one open.  But couldn't figure out how to get it apart.  The book had some vague instructions about driving out the adjuster bolt, but it didn't move. We did "assume" that it drove out from the back.
