Hi All, for my 1966 DD 8V71, skinner valve 16B-10-57 @ MCI, "current on "air on" solenoid valve, $120, brass engine shutdown air cylinder, $121 from MCI 6C-10-1, when you shut off the engine, elec/air solenoid (skinner is the maker) allows air thru to a brass piston, that pushes an arm, that closes off fuel to the engine. been getting partial fuel flow to engine reducing acceleration, skinner is allowing air thru, partially closing fuel gate. 6 air cylinders left, 100 skinner valves left at MCI. In pic, skinners on left verticle SS cylinder, brass object is air piston cylinder, pushing an arm moving the fuel gate, this the shut down position. thank you Clifford, Van and Gary, for your great knowledge and freely given time to help, lvmci...
;)
Good deal. I believe the skinner valves are a normal stock item for different applications but I bet those air cylinders are MCI only.
Brian
Air cylinders are a DD product Brian,I don't why Tom is buying the complete units repair kits are available for both, there is the reason I am a huge fan of the 1 piece shut down they cost 90 bucks from Detroit and you never worry about a skinner valve or the cylinder again.Tom I have a drawer full of the cylinders should have called I could have dropped one off to you
good luck
Thanks Clifford, I decided to get the new one for a quick repair, then rebuild it for the fast idle side. After hearing your story about your MCI8 and Gary Bennets appraisil, he had an air cylinder, I decided it would be good to have a spare. The bolt was broken on the mitre box mount, it is a one on configuration, the big fan belt is now discontinued, and not being made anymore, only a few left at mci, so my feeling is, when I repair something, I should rebuild the part taken out and save it for later, tom, lvmci...
PS, this particular skinner valve had a round screw on water proof conector, it was more limited then the other models...
Tom did you swap out the cylinder yet?
Tom MCI may not have anymore belts but Tuesday I bought one at NAPA Heavy in Sacramento 2 miles from me for $50.00. It is 87.00 normally but was buying all my filters for Bus, Tractor, and Generator so pretty good bill on my AIT card through Prevost Board ( thank you Jon).
He told me he can get them through Tri Power Ind. in Georgia and ordered me one which should be here by Friday
It is Part number Tri Power Ind. V, CX109 (113"), It did cost me 8.00 to ship. ;D
Dave
Hi Van, just about finished show, maybe tonite, definitely tomoro, tom...
hi Dave, thanks, I called Dayco, who manufactured the belt MCI sells, they didn't even have the part number anymore, said it was out of production a few years, I could get the CX109 which was 113"and the other number that was 109 inches, but they were to wide or to thin and I needed 111 inches, at bearing belt and chain, I think I needed 3/4" wide if I remember right, tom, lvmci...
Hi All, put in the skinner valve and the air valve, solved a little bit of the hesitation on acceleration, but the new skinner now shuts the engine down, when fully aired up and warmed a little, if I disconnect the skinner electrical 24volt connector engine runs continually with out shutting down, then I shut the engine off by manually rotating the fuel gate. I think there is 3 problems, the skinner shutting the engine down, which is electrical, Im pretty sure. The hestation on acceleration in 1st gear and inability to get to high crusing speed or climb hills as she normally does. And the possibility when the fuel tank got below 1/4 tank, maybe the sedement in the tank blocked or clogged the fuel line and is now restricting the fuel flow from tank to engine. But it was also the first time I used the part biodiesel, I have heard the thickness of the biodiesel mix can damage old injectors. Gary Bennett and Van have suggested by passing the connector to the skinner and see if it is corrosion causing the loss of power that is causing the skinner to allow the air valve to push and close the fuel gate, I'm in the process of locating the 24volt electrical junction box and track down the wires to by pass the 24volt round connector to see if corrosion breaks power causing the engine shut down. Then, pull the fuel filters to inspect for dirt and other contaminants for restriction, I was thinking about checking fuel pressure also. In the last few weeks, I've changed the oil bath air filter, the two fuel filters, the fan belt to the squirrel cage fans, and steam cleaned the squirrel cage fans in an attempt to reduce the vibration in the fan compartment and it has definitely reduced the vibration, but these other issues have popped up, possibly because of the steam wash? lvmci...

IME, the thickness of bio-d doesn't damage old injectors but it can very hard (or even disastrous) on the newer, electronically controlled, super-high pressure ones. But I'm afraid your problem may be the use of bio-d in an old fuel system. Bio-d is a good solvent -- normally good -- but when used in an old fuel system, it will dissolve sludge, dirt, and deposits (what the highly-educated engineers call "crud") -- normally not so good -- and wash that stuff out of your tank and fuel lines into your filters, fuel pump, injector lines and injectors.
First thing, check your fuel filters -- if you're lucky, all the crud got trapped there and it has plugged the filter -- not the pump and injectors. I once had to change two fuel filters in 4 days (at $60 a pop) on my VW TDI after bio-d -- and that was when there was less than 80K miles on it.
Good luck, Bruce Henderson, coastal NC, USA
Hi Bruce, thanks, that's my intent as soon as get some time off, got them at NAPA, so they are availabe here in LV, lvmci...
