Title: 6v92 Building New Fuel Lines with Fittings
Post by: brianzero on June 07, 2014, 03:57:05 PM
Hi All,

There must be a way to make your own fuel lines, right? All the DOT fittings exist on McMaster Carr, and the fuel line probably does too (Im just not sure what specs those lines are supposed to be). How do you assemble the lines and fittings? Any special tools?

These are the crusty fuel lines I'm very interested in updating, circled in red:

those are field fittings on them now new ones are pricey. I think you can clean them up ! you can get the fuel line at truck supply places. Make sure you hook them back into the same place! to take apart you undo the nut and pull out the fitting and hose then pull the hose from the fitting as you twist! to but back toghter twist in new hose and then puch in and turn the nut end back into the hose :)

So you can reuse those old fittings (assuming they arent rusted beyond use)? Is there some sort of compression ring inside that tightens when you reassemble them? These actually arent too badly rusted. After a muriatic acid bath, theyll look like new.

those fittings are reusable if you really want new hoses, take them off
(the hoses) and walk them up to a wire wheel on a bench grinder and polish away. the fabric on the out side serves no fluid retaining purpose.
the hoses will out live you. shine them up and put them back on.
I would.
PS I would replace the hose clamps on the T-Stat housing short hoses with the kind that are on the cross over...JMW.
PSS two crescent wrenches if that's all you got and a vice makes it super easy.

Thanks for that image, Eagle. And, youre right on about those Home Depot hose clamps. They need to go.
