Please help. Been down for 2 months . Am in illinois thank you all. Ahead of time
You need to get to a Allison shop the converter lock up valve is bad could be the converter but I doubt it sounds like it is just in lock up mode ? you don't by chance have a lockup switch on the dash and I am assuming this is not a electronic transmission
No it not a electronic transmissi have a 6v92 Detroit Diesel 740 Allison
If it is the lockup valve it's no big deal 4 hrs labor and 11 gals of transmission oil plus the valve
Does anyone know how much the converter lock out value cost . And if it would be job i can do and where is it located thank ahead of time
Where in Illinois are you? I'm about 20 miles west of Chicago.
Am in.joliet off 80 about 35 from.chicago,il
Had an MC9 do the same exact thing yrs ago.
I was in another bus and came along behind the broke down bus.
I stopped and looked things over an called the owner (my uncle) an told him about it. He told me go drop your group, come back pick up his take them to hotel and have wrecker haul it to your shop.
Next AM I get a call from him he's at my shop with my mechanic and they have spent most of the night dropping the transmission and now have it out on the ground and can't figure out how to get it out from under the bus.
I laughed and laughed until my sides hurt. When I finally quit laughing they asked me "what was so damn funny"
I told them you don't drop the trans you pull the engine an trans as a unit then separate them.
There was a long silence, and then they finally said "NOW YOU TELL US!" (no kidding true story)
Said thing is yrs later when I said something here on the board I learn from Clifford that we probably never had to pull or replace that transmission! (go figure)
;D BK ;D
Yes i have had it tow 2 and it is very costly just want try and get it figure out cause i missed so much money this last 2month i been down and i dont think it the trans cause it was drive fine before this happen
You need to find someone smart enough to check the pressures if it doesn't kill the engine with the axle removed as you stated and reverse works the converter is in the lockup mode I would guess. When in the lock up it almost becomes like a clutch and manual transmission without the clutch
The lockup assembly has 3 valves all the same valves and is located towards the front of the transmission inside the pan mounted on valve body assembly you may can find a rebuilt or used assembly but check the pressures first don't start throwing dollars at it

Two things I can suggest that will help us help you!
#1 is to let us know where you are located
# let us know where the bus is located.
Chances are someone will be in your area or near where the bus is that can recommend a good mechanic/shop!
;D BK ;D
I am in cresthill,il
Does any one know of a good moblie mechanic in cresthill,il because i have had bus tow 3 times and is very expense and hard to get some to tow so any one ones of a great moblie person that would be great . Thanks ahead of time
Changing a valve body outside a shop is a risky undertaking. I would do it for me, under the right circumstances, but I would not enjoy it... ;D
Yea i just been told so much and have had it tow to 3 shop and they all say yea we can fix it and all this other stuff and then they say naw cant do nothing and 3 tows i been out lot of money an nothing happen . I would even try to do my self .
I hear air leak my rear end . And would the lockup valve cause trans fulid to come out of dip stick
I would call the nearest Detroit Allison dealer. Inland Power is in Carol
