Last time I had the valve covers off I had a heck of a time getting them to seal back up and they still drool a little from time to time.
While the engine is out for the transmission swap, I was thinking of going from those old stamped valve covers to the new cast aluminum (?) ones if they seal up better.
Thoughts?

LOL, I just listed a pair for sale in the Spare Tire, 30 minutes ago!
Or you can switch to the tall covers and put some Jakes under them depending on the terrain you generally travel.
Have one 6-71 aluminum non jake cover remaining, maybe the mounting bolts too, come get it.

Did you replace the rubber seal?
The valve cover set bolt, pads, washers and gaskets for the cast covers are not expensive less than 30 bucks a set from Diesel Pro fwiw
So the real question I guess, is would the cast covers probably leak less than the stamped ones with a new rubber seal?
And no, I did not get a new rubber seal last time. Just put it back together.
Fred
Cast covers are better and with the silicone gasket they use you never need to replace the gasket unless you tear it ,match the stamped with the cast covers the cast are not easy to fab outlets for the oil fill and breathers fwiw
good luck
Back to the 6-71 non Jake Aluminum valve cover, found the bolts, had oil fill in center and still here for who ever drops by, Central Virginia eight O four 2 four O six 7 ate nine. haw that should confuse some.
