My 4107 has had this nervous voltmeter needle for years and, on my last trip last year, it stopped working altogether. I jumped batt voltage to the sensor post on the VM and it worked well enough to get me home. I had to remove the jumper when parked though because it slowly discharged the batt.
Today I discovered that the sensor/batt connection on the gen was just very slightly loose, just enough that it could be moved but not obvious by sight.
I cleaned the wire terminals and tightened this clamp and now my output varies only 0.01v, not enough to be even noticeable on the dash VM.
This has made me very happy, that needle has bugged me for years!!
It could have been that big huge old fashioned amp gage wire that was loose, then you would have had a ..... wait for it..... an ampatude problem. HB of CJ (old coot) :)
