I've had an IR temp gun for many years and have found it to be very useful. I got mine at NAPA, I think. If I recall, it was over $50
but that was probably a decade or more ago.
I get emails from a company called ThermoWorks that makes fine digital cooking thermometers called the Thermopen. They were
rated best by the people at America's Test Kitchen / Cooks Country. I agree and have been using them for many years. They're a
must have for BBQ!
Periodically I get an email from them with special deals. This week, they have some Open Box IR Thermo Guns on sale for $34. Now,
understand, I no experience with these particular units, but I've been very pleased with the Thermopens. The company seems to
be very well run and produces a quality product. If I didn't already have an IR gun, I'd certainly consider one of these at that price.
I also have no connection to the company, other than being a satisfied customer.

You have that right, we have a few IR heat guns, read up to 1600f, great for engine trouble shooting, finding the blanace between cylinders, down to circuit breaker, contactor, loose wiring, wheel bearing, tire, DC alternator, block, turbo, a/c, heater etc, its one of those gadgets that once you start using, you find many things of interest to check.
The obe that goes to 1600f cost about $650.00 about 10 yrs ago, today the Fluke model goes to about 900f at $ 80,00, the one from Lowes goes to about 500f for $30.00.
WHAT EVER YOU DO, DO NOT AIM THE BEAM IN YOUR EYE !!

I have 2 temp guns I got them from harbor freight on sale for under 30 bucks ea. they work great, one in the house, the other in the bus>>>> John.
Search for "IR temperature gun" on amazon, ebay, or the like. Plenty of models that will do the job for under $20 these days.

I really like my IR gun. It is a Harbor Freight unit so the temp may not be 100% accurate, but I am mostly comparing the same hub or brake drum versus the one on the other side to see if one is significantly warmer than the other. I really have no reference for what the temps should be.
