Title: GM New Look Bus Parts
Post by: alley251 on March 17, 2014, 03:49:54 PM
Since I am new this this forum I hope I'm posting this in the right spot. I am currently working on restoring a 1963 GM 5303 New Look bus. I know what I need would be the opposite of what most people are looking for here. But I'm hoping to find things that people may discard when modifying their coach. I am also looking for buses in yards or peoples back yards that may yield valuable parts for this restoration. The bus I'm working on belongs to the Baltimore Streetcar Museum. It is a link in transit history in Baltimore. Thank you reading and I hope to hear from you.

Welcome to the bus forum, I am one of many 5303 owners here. Maybe you could be more detailed about what you are looking for.

Welcome to the forum.  I'm a member of the Transit Museum in Vancouver Canada.  We have 3 Fishbowls in our collection of vintage coaches.  We were allowed to conduct a parts raid several years ago when the transit authority here scrapped the remaining new looks in the fleet.  We also got a couple of pallets of parts.  We probably have all the glass you might need.  E-mail me at bryandotlarrabeeatshawdotca if there's anything specific you need.

We are always looking for opportunities to do more parts raids so if you have a wish list that can't be filled we might run into it in the future.  Yes we sell the parts but not at a huge profit.  Check our on-line store at www.trams.ca (http://www.trams.ca)

Lorin Joplin had the largest collection of new looks I know of.  He is selling them off and he has parts available.  his contact info should be on that link above.

This is in response to Charles of S C. The coachs with a side destination sign had a different transom window channel in the right front. This is the rubber piece the the museums bus needs. Thanks for your help.

We'll you got me on that side destination sign. I do not think I have ever seen one of those. I do not have any parts myself but by stating what you need I thought someone else here might know where to get it. This forum is a wealth of bus information.

For those of you with access to a 53 seat fishbowl, I am looking for a specific measurement. I have a 64 SDM 5302 and the shift rods require lubrication. Problem is that the bus was converted to a RV in the early 90's and the isle was covered over. According to the manual there is a lubrication access door in the isle floor. Not wanting to cut up the floor of my bus if anyone can tell me how far back it is I would be very grateful.

Welcome Alley 251
I have a spare parts bus, biggest problem is I'm in Canada which makes it a delivery night mare.

Paso One, does your parts bus have a Vernatherm which would control the oil supply to a fluid drive fan if it has one?  Been looking for one without any success. Thanks
