Title: Parting out MCI 7
Post by: LowTide on March 07, 2014, 04:05:45 PM
I ran across this MCI 7 being parted out and thought that someone might be interested in some parts.

The radiators got my attention.....;)

It is like a brake to help slow you down. No subsitute for service breakes just a helper.

Can be. But could get transmission hot if used for prolonged periods. http://www.svfd.net/SVFD%20Files/Articles/Engineer/Retarder%20Operation%20How%20Does%20It%20Work.pdf (http://www.svfd.net/SVFD%20Files/Articles/Engineer/Retarder%20Operation%20How%20Does%20It%20Work.pdf)

Having the Allison 4000MHR w/retarder in my 31,000 lb coach, while towing a 4,500 F150 pickup, desending a 6% interstate for 6 miles at 45 mph in 4th gear, the retarder temp goes to 270, sump to 230 engine coolant temp to 210 while not using the foot pedal.   Surprising the engine water temp runs higher down the mountain than when going up with the 500 hp ISM.   Yes I love it and would not feel as comfy with a Jake on a DDC 71 or 92, once you experience one, you get sold speedo.

Some diesel engines the retarder is your only choice the older L-10 Cummins are a PITA to install Jakes

     Hi;
        Thanks for the info.  I have a 70' MC-7 also and am always
        looking for parts.  Was surprised to see a bus in Las Vegas
        craigs list actually located in Calif near Readding.  It is a long
        way from me, but I will contact the seller and plan a trip.
                                      Thanks again,  Merle.
