Title: Pics of bus in -13 F
Post by: Scott & Heather on January 28, 2014, 08:02:16 PM
So, water hasn't frozen, sewer line hasn't frozen solid, and coach is maintaining a temp in the 70s. You step outside and it hurts to breathe. Almost like inhaling sharp pieces of ice. 3 feet of snow and honestly thinking Antarctica is likely warmer right now....you should hear the weird noises my truck makes when starting it in these temps...the interstate is glare ice too. Scott - you love the cold so I don't feel bad. Its supposed to be in the 70s here all weekend.  Ill send you some pics of what that looks like (cause you probably forgot).

Miss y'all and love ya! Its amazing that you are having no issues keeping warm.

Ps- whens the last time you started up your bus?

Scott I was going to ask where you are located but I checked your profile. I live in Milwaukee so we are going thru "Alaska south" as well. But hey, the people in Florida are missing out. :)

Scott,

We got hit with a rare snowstorm yesterday which paralyzed the city of Atlanta.

I showed the pictures of your bus to my bus, so it would know that things could be a lot worse. I'm sure it feels better now.

Yeah...ice on inside... ::)

We've officially closed the bedroom off and are sleeping in the livingroom. No joke. I kind like it...the cold. the snow. the subzero winds. i kinda like the feeling of my face getting frostbitten. it's funny, the other morning i started the tractor and went to plow and the hydrostatic trans was frozen so it stuck in gear and moved forward without me being able to stop it. that was fun. i broke the plow blade yesterday plowing the heavy and 3 foot deep snow. that was a joy. i love this life. i feel like i'm getting used to it. i'm thinking of trying to walk to the mailbox barefoot.

I feel you... just shoveled two feet of snow of the roof of the bus. I've been trying to keep working on the conversion but we've been having days that drop below -30 C (-22 F ) and my little space heater doesn't do much when its this cold...

You need to try the latest craze.  Put your bathing suit on and go out and belly flop into a snow drift.  Make sure you video it so we can all enjoy it.

And to my family Sean and Angie, I think you guys should zip up here for  long weekend. It would be good contrast. I keep thinking how fun it would be to shovel snow with you.

Scott - the kids would LOVE it.   It would be 3 days of snowball fights, sledding and igloo making.  Chloe is dying for it to snow here.  We had an ice storm last week and the kids were out all morning slipping and sliding on it.

Unfortunately Mack would not do good in the cold.  He's just not ready for the snow and cold yet.  We would have a hard time keeping warm if the lows were in the teens much less zero.

And then Angie is not really a fan of cold weather either but I know she would take the trip up to see you all in a heartbeat no matter what the weather. She would probably have a very convincing discussion with you first about driving south to see us though.

Keep warm!

I just saw that you are in St. Joseph. We used to live in Niles and Buchanan.

Are you sick of the locals talking about "lake effect snow" yet?

I grew up here, so Lake Effect is part of the culture. Michigan is the only state I believe entirely covered in snow right now. It's crazy, we'll get a foot of snow here, and drive 15 miles east and it's blue skies and sunny...turn around, drive back to Berrien Springs, and it's still zero visibility snow falling. Unreal. It never ceases to amaze me. In the recent snowstorm a week ago, a flock of Horned Grebe's got caught in the storm and slammed to the ground. They can't take off on land...so if you see one floundering around on a snowbank, just carry it to open water and watch the magic :) Here's the one I rescued this past week and yes, you'll notice it was 1 F at 12:49 pm:
