Title: The Eagle has landed in Arcadia
Post by: rv_safetyman on December 08, 2006, 05:29:32 AM
Hi folks.  After 2603 miles and a week of travel, we have made it from Evergreen, CO to Arcadia, FL.

Jack and Paula are letting us store the bus at their place while we do some tourist things and fly home for Christmas with the kids.  We will return on the 27th and then look forward to the BIG BASH!!

The first part of the trip was not fun!  We got caught in the big snowstorm that blanketed the Midwest.  It took us two days to get out of CO.  We spent our second night in a Wal Mart in Trinidad CO where the temperature hit 1 degree.  We stayed fairly comfortable with the Aqua Hot, but we did end up loosing one water supply fitting.

Aside from the rough start, we had a good trip.

So, who all is going to be at Bussin' 2007?   Jack gave us a bit of insight, but it would be fun to know who all will be here.

Hi Jim! Glad you made it down for some of our winter weather were having! Isn't it great? It has to be a lot different than those Co. winters especially in a bus!

Anyway, you know Susan and I will be in Arcadia and it will be nice to see you again!

See you right after Christmas in Arcadia!

Tell JC we said hello!

Glad to hear you made it ok, Jim.

I've been thinking maybe this is the year I should come down. I'll be out of work in two weeks, so I could potentially take the whole month of January (or longer  ;) ) to return home. The family isn't so thrilled about the idea, but that's only because they wouldn't be able to come with me!  :D  Will have to see if I can make it work. We're having Christmas in NE, so I'd need to leave from there there on the 26th in order to make it down to Arcadia by the 28th. That presents a few other problems regarding getting the family home.

Ace, I asked Jack if they have found a hole to park you in.  He said they are working on it ;D

Craig, it would be great if you could make it down.

Unfortunately, we won't be coming down this year.

After three in a row, need to do some other stuff with this year's Christmas break.

Best of traveling fortunes to all who go.

I'll miss all of you!

happy coaching!

Craig,  Cool ... you bringing the bus??  Or flying? I need to pull genset and re-core rad :(  Hope to have done for trip.  Jack never said he got me a spot with A/C.

Jim, ditto on safe arrival.

Jerry,

If I come, it would be in the bus, but right now it's just a passing thought. Not sure I can really do it. Have to work out the details.

I figure I could spend a few weeks in the warmth, and then work my way back. No rush, since I won't have a job to come home to. Actually, I been trying to generate some interest with a company I've been working with on this job that's located in Clearwater, FL, which is next to Tampa. Wouldn't mind finding a short term contract there for a few months.

If I do, can I bum some electric off your generator if I need A/C?  ;)

Craig,

I hope to make room in the polebarn tomorrow to get the bus in and pill the getset.  Rad on interior backside.  I get that off and ger her re-cored, "should" be fine.  Then, then you have FREE electricity!

Hi Jim, I'm coming down and would very much like to see your engine/transmission/clutch install.   Your autoshift trans is an interesting concept.  I could do with something like that.  Does it require a com-link with the engine...beyond a VSS?
Just curious..who knows.  Saw a manual shift 102D the other day....that would be nice.  I've got shifting blood.  With enough gears, even backing into a campground place wouldn't be too difficult.   It would with a typical 4 spd.
Hope to meet you there...and many others!  JR

Hi JR.  Maybe we will finally get to meet ;D

Sonnie Gray and I put together a seminar on engine conversions last year and had a ton of fun with it.  It was presented as half seminar and half round table.  This year we have expanded it a bit with a few more "unusual" conversions.

I will conver the AutoShift as much as folks want to talk about it.  Or, we can talk about it separately.

Basically the trasmission functions as fully "automatic"  when connected with a J1939 port on the ECM.  Or it can be used as a "semi-automatic"  when used with a mechanical engine.  For the latter, the driver has to control the engine, but the transmission does all the shifting.  In either case, the first two generations must have a clutch to start and stop.

Niles, looks like the better half is wearing them pants now up in Canada! The rally just won't be the same if the warrior don't show!

BW, put your foot down and come anyway! That's what I'm doing! Yea right, but it sounds manly don't it?

You say FLY him down? Nah! If he ain't drivin his bus down here then let him stay in the cold! It's a BUS rally not a drinkin party though we have been known to change the rules some in the past!

Hey if your looking for a drinking partner, I have a good recommendation and he's sure to be there! Just don't tell him what you drink because he'll bring a bay FULL of it!  ::)

I love you guys!

You aren't making it any easier.

I will be a lonely and frozen northern busnut.

Raise a glass of your favourite beverage to my eventual return to the sunny south.

If my rent-a-wreck gets me down there we'll meet!  Looking forward to meeting and info on the autoshift.  An AutoShift seminar would be great.
I have no reason to believe it won't get there...or I'd be down in the barn fixin...but.  Stuff happens!  My only real concern is if the weather gets really cold, which it can do up here this time of year...one of those 20* high days...my bus ain't really a winter bus...good summer bus.    Never really intended to camp in the winter...?  Bus and engine will be fine...water system....maybe.
Best, JR
