Title: mci 5,7,8,9 brake drums
Post by: mikelutestanski on September 23, 2013, 05:53:36 PM
Hello   Anyone try to buy new brake drums lately?  I have found that Webb only makes a 64004B drum now.  THis is for the front and tag axles of most older mci buses.  I have one price of 200 bucks.   Any one have any other experience
THis is for the 14.5 X 5 inch brake system.   I have found that brake parts are getting scarce also.
I can check on brake parts with mohawk industries but drums are another issue.

Man, that sounds expensive, considering a 16.5x7 drum is around $80. Check at a Freightliner dealer since Freightliner makes both Thomas and Setra buses. Good Luck, TomC

Mike, the Webb drums for a Eagle are getting expensive and hard to find also and 400 bucks is not a uncommon price for the Webb drum for the Eagles for the rear drive

Mike,

I had no trouble getting a 64004 drum for my MCI 8 recently. I ordered it from Fleet Pride, and yes, the price was $218. I know TomC tells us often about how cheap brake drums are, but if the size we need aren't available at his prices, what are we to do?

Good luck, Sam

I was looking at a pallet of new chinese drums a while back and noticed that the balancing tabs were welded on at the exact same spot on each one.  Kinda told me they were just there for looks.

When I did brakes on my 5C a few months ago each wheel-set of shoes was $120 plus core, and the drums were quoted at around $250 (I didn't need drums).  They were a special order from the warehouse, and were called MCI coach parts in the catalog.  I guess if I had iffy drums I'd be getting some in stock.

2 years ago I bought brake blocks and new blots and nylon/plastic s-cam bushings, new air chambers ---- when I looked in the book ( brake parts) there is a section for Coach, many of the small parts are the same as big truck!
