Title: Shallow pan capacity 60 series/
Post by: robertglines1 on September 21, 2013, 03:14:25 PM
How much have the ones that have done this on truck engines to bus found to be the correct amount? I have 6 gal in and show full. Oil level in pan is at proper level in relation to block.  Bob

This will be interesting to find out what oil level the guys are running I know 6.5 gals is the low limit on a series 60 according to the book, fwiw I never saw a Prevost with a 60 series that did not take 10 gals with filters

I have the cast alum pan and pick up as set. I was thinking 10 gal also. Decided to check as I was filling. Got 6 in and was on full mark with includes full filters...  No mistake on amount! 5 gal bucket plus a little more.  Glad I did not just blindly dump all 10 gal in.   5 was already on stick..    Bob

I'm going to remove a plug in pan tomorrow that is at upper oil level mark and make sure of  dip stick marking.  99% sure it is correct already.  Just want to make sure of other 1 %.  Engine is level--first thing I checked with bubble level--it shouldn't make that much difference anyway.

You could take a tape measure to the pan to see what the dimensions are and do a little math.  Should get you pretty close.

Series 60 have 4 locations for the dip stick. The tube, dip stick and location must match.

Also, there are several shallow pans looked at about three when I bought mine. They all looked to have about the same sump capacity at a quick glance.

Mine holds about 11 gallons with filters.

Hi Bob,

Eagles Nest of Nashville drained our oil pan, replaced filters and, filled with ten gallons of new oil.  We ground a new 'full' mark on the stick and the engine oil level has not moved from that indication in well over twelve thousand miles!

P.S.  That's in an Eagle model 20 with S60.

I get award!!!! The 1 % got me.... the tube slipped during install... added rest of 10 gal now at 1 1/4 below block.  Did comparison measurement between original pan etc to determine this level. I have always posted the only dumb question ask is the one not ask..  My turn---- Glad it worked out for my sake!  Need to ck pan # it might take closer to 11  gal if dipstick is back in correct place.  Or just re mark and go with 10 to keep it simple..... Whew!!!!!  For your entertainment---- ;D   Bob
