The train did get derailed, which surprises me somewhat. The mass differential is hugely in favor of the train.
I used to take that bus. Well, not that actual bus but that route. I think the bus went through the activated barrier at speed and hit the slow moving train (it was going into or out of a station) amidships. It might have been on a switch, which would make it derail a lot easier. Driver was killed, so going to be very hard to tell what happened, but very unusual for a transit bus to go through a rail crossing at speed in the first place, I think they have to stop same as a school bus.

My friend and classmate was one of the victims of the crash... very sad day
