Post by: Flyboy on December 03, 2006, 03:26:21 PM
Hello,

I need a new block heater for my bus.  671 Detroit diesel.

Any ideas on where to buy one online, best price, good quality?

Thanks in advance.

Aron.

I just bought mine on the eplace, for my 8v71.

Brand new and the price was right.

Paul,

What did it cost? I have no idea what these things sell for.

I paid around 25 bucks, plus shipping.

Have you checked ebay?

I know they may not have what you need when you want it though.

I could check with the seller I bought from and see if he has one to fit your 6v71.

You have to make sure that it will fit your engine. Like the one I bought fits the 8v71 without power steering or A/C.

I bought two block heaters...one was wrong.  Paid about $20 bucks for the wrong (1" pipe thread..garunteed to fit)  and paid $32 for the correct unit.  Both same manufacturer.   If you can use the 1" unit, you're more than welcome to it.
If interested, I'll see if the part number is still in the box.    The unit is about 6" long, straight like a hot water heating element.  Has what appears to be 1" pipe threads.  May have been a place to install it on my 6V, but I didn't see it.  The OEM style 6V92 has a 4 bolt plate that replaces a block water jacket cover.   A real b$##@tch to get to.  Had to modify the dipstick tube to install.  Nothing's easy.
I'll post the part number.  I just had a dumpster set out here and if it ain't valuable...or a tool...it's going.
Still have several MC9 windows????
Luke would sell the correct block heater without issue.   The wrong one came from NAPA.  Shoulda called Luke.   Bought the other one from Bill H who had the new unit at T'ville.   I saw it there, but thought that I had the correct unit...found out that I didn't and called Bill and bought his, which works great.
No part of the element can touch anything.  They shouldn't be left on while the engine is running.   Mine's 1200 watts and heats both heads in 30 to 45 minutes.  Engine starts just like on hot summer day.  Better than I would've thought.
Anybody have any dash lights?  Trade a block heater for some   MC9 dash lights???  We're Dealin!  :D
Not really.  Gotta call Luke.  All my dash lights are out....the only ones that work are in the speedo that doesn't work.  Oh happy day! >:(
