Any here know about this charger/maintainer Schumacher model XM1-5-CA I know they have made good chargers for a long time
I come across a closeout sell at Lowes and paid 6.99 ea for 4 they are 6/12 volts 1.5 amps did I waste 28 bucks tell me the good, bad or ugly
Hi Cliff, Ive been using their battery maintainer/charger for my motorcycles for years, WM1562A, good product, they were $29, on sale for $19, so Id say good buy! Tom, lvmci...
Bought a Schumacher SC-10030A Automatic charger at Napa first of the year and cooling fan went out the first couple months. Yesterday while charging Dozer batteries went out to check and it's toast. Nothing lights up. It says they have a 5 year warranty. Looking for original invoice to send it back. We shall see!
I definitely would have bought them at that price. I bought same brand but different model a few years ago and it does what it should.
Clifford got one at a estate sale for 2.00. It has worked for 3 years now.

Cliff, I would have done it, too!
The specs look good. They are not for charging in a hurry. We use a one amp for conditioning, and it gets more hours than any of the others.
Thanks.

In our business, we buy/sell many batteries and battery chargers every month, have found for a small cheap 12 V charger, the Battery Tender line has been the most reliable and the Schmacher and others as being costly failures.
The two models mostly use are the 800 Ma water proof ($30.00) and the 12V 5 Amp and the 24V 2.5 Amp ($90.00), not the cheapest but the most reliable.
We need our generators to start when they are needed, not a good time to fine the cheap charger has failed. Without a charger, most of our equipment will have a dead battery within 2-3 days from parasitic loads, computers etc.
Battery Tender units seem to survive most of the electrical surge / lightening in the area, there are other great expensive chargers, but they fail with most any excitement on the AC line, others are bullet proof but not well regulated, so its your choice.
Thanks I am going to give the things a try I like the 6/12 feature I guess all tenders can have a problem my Battery Tender is 4 years old it quit and they are not wanting to honor their 10 year warranty so I wasn't going to spend another 100 bucks for the Battery Tender Plus
You get me once that the only chance the manufacture get I don't go back for seconds
The best one I have is by far the Dewalt 6 amp I think I paid under 20 bucks for it on sale and it keep the batteries perfect
good luck
I have had my Schmacher charger for over fifteen years, it still works fine.
Cliff -
I got the super duper Schumacher from Wally world for 30 or 40 dollars or so. It does what it says....charges the Batts, tells you the voltage and trickle charges if you leave it on.
I'd have bought the one you got for 7$ even as a backup. Can't beat a charger for 7$

Clifford,
I don't have a dog in this hunt but came across this info. Maybe worth reading. Are you in ID? I tried to call a couple of times, no joy! Ring me up if you get around to it.
