Title: Replacing the Compressor
Post by: Dave5Cs on April 25, 2013, 09:18:37 PM
Do you have to drain the whole system, oil and antifreeze when pulling the compressor on my MCI ,6V-71, or just below the compressor. The book sounds like all or just the compressor?

Also does anyone know what 740 Tranny takes in Gallons for a fluid change. I believe it is just ATF in mine because it is Red.

You just have to drain enough coolant so the coolant is below the level of the compressor. You do not have to drain the oil-but most likely you'll get some coolant in the oil-hence you should change the oil afterwards. Good Luck, TomC

Dave the 740 takes 7.5 gals with the standard 5 inch pan + the filter and cooler most will be around 10 gals when done

FWIW my NAPA store here as probably yours can order the pan gasket and the internal filter some 740's have a washable internal filter

good luck
