Need explanation of difference between 8V71 left and right turning engines camshafts. The cams turn the same
direction in both types. Thanks in adv. 06 Bill
The cam lobes are in a different location on the camshaft in relation to timing marks and gears for the lefty
Yes the cams run the same direction whether the engine is a right or left turning (that's because the blower only can run one direction and it is geared directly off the cam gears). So to change direction, take the right cam to the left side-left cam to the right side; move the idler gear to the other side; change the oil pump. Since the water pump is on the camshaft, it will still turn the same way-as with the blower, fuel pump, and governor. Good Luck, TomC
If you have the gear driven alternator you buy another cam some 71 series have nuts on both ends of the cam some have a bolt on 1 end and a nut on the other you cannot always just flip the cams that would make life to easy one reason DD sells 6 different cams for the beast LH and RH rotation
