Well, got the old girl home on Monday. went and got steer tires put on, then took the wife for a ride to weigh it.
on our way back home started loosing power, fuel filters starting to plug. changed the filters, the old filters had a lot of black stuff. after changing the filters, lots o power. Now i think the fuel line might be plugged.
So now I'm thinkin of pumping out the old fuel, which is about 3 years old off road diesel, the red stuff. then blowing out the lines from the tank to the filters, filter the old fuel through a tee shirt and add biocide. then I'll pressurize the tank to fill the lines again after putting the old diesel back in. It has about 90 gallons in it that I'd hate to throw away.
So is there anything else I should think about that i maybe overlooking?
Thanks in advance for any advice.
Oh yeah, it's an dd 8v71
yep you might use that red stuff for fire starter. If you get pulled over and they find that in your tank you will get a very hefty fine. Just saying. refer to the red Dye thread on the board.

If you use it for fire starter, you won't need to filter it! If you get caught on road with it you'll not like the outcome. But you could clean it up and use in generator or tractor.

yes, the fines on using off road diesel are big, $10-25000 the last i heard. I may try and sell or trade for clean green fuel. Just trying to get ideas on how to best clean out the tank of all the algae, that's some nasty stuff.
thanks for your input.

Put some GREEN dye in the tank to make a different color, like BLUE or YELLOW ! Whatever you have left over from coloring your Easter Eggs ! That will FOOL 'em.
Happy April Fools !
Just go to locals pay the road tax in OR I believe it's $.25 a gal filter and treat the stuff and use it
no crime in using red fuel if the tax is paid and you have the receipt
the off road diesel came in the bus when we bought it. I won't be using the red stuff after it gets cleaned out, don't need the fines. Won' blue dye turn it purple?
thanks, scott
Tie dye it.
Tell them it's a hippie thing

Keep in mind that even if you get rid of it, you will have to run 5-6 tanks of fuel thru it to get rid of all traces of the dye......and they can still detect it up until that point.
