Title: Changing the oil
Post by: Emcemv on March 30, 2013, 11:29:57 AM
I just changed the oil and filter getting ready for Blytheville.  I did not fill the oil filter with oil. Now I'm reading that I should have filled it.  Can I get away with this once or do I need to take that new filter off and fill it up before I start it?

I can't tell you that it is essential to do it, but I probably would just for the peace of mind.  There always seems to be a delay in the oil pressure registering after an oil change even when you do fill the filter.  I wonder if cutting the fuel supply and cranking it without letting it start is an option.

You will be fine just watch and be sure it doesn't blow the gasket on the filter a 8v92 bypasses the filter till the the oil pressure come up the oil galley is always full of oil even after you drain the pan

good luck

Well....I took the filter off and filled it with oil..good thing I did, the level dropped quite a bit once everything circulated.

Thanks luvrbus, it dropped less than a gallon, checked the filter for leaks carefully, looks fine. I put in 8 gallons and it is right on the mark the PO had on the dipstick which is just above the "L" mark. This is a silver reman 8v92 from 2000, mechanical injection.

I have no idea what pan you have but if it is the bus pan it less than 7 gals 6.9 plus the filter and you are saying 8 gals plus the filter ?
