Hey guys on the Government Liquidation sales they have the transfer case (drop box) for sale that will use any gear ratio with a truck rear end it uses a shaft and doesn't bolt to the 3rd member same setup as Davenport has behind his 650 hp series 60 in his Eagle located in OKC lot 2303

Never heard of such an animal!  Learn something new every day. 

Can't quite figure out how the drop box is mounted to the rear end housing.  Maybe someone has photos or information?

Jim,

Apparently you never got to spend time in the Army. Lucky you. That gear box is independent of both the transmission and the differential. There is a drive shaft between the transmission and the gear box, and another drive shaft between the gear box and the differential. You would have to built a sturdy mount to align the output flange of the gear box and the input flange of the differential. HTH

The mid mount transmission is done many times on off road dump trucks. It's just easier to work on an independently mounted engine and transmission then to work with them together. There is a kit Allison makes to change any of the HT and World transmissions to mid mounted. Good Luck, TomC

Hi Sam.  No, I missed that challenge - something I regret to a degree.

I had figured out the driveshaft into the rear end "pumpkin", but could not figure out how the housing was mounted to the rear end or bus structure.  Your description makes sense.

Not sure what that unit buys you.  If it is stronger than the Eagle/MCI drop box then it makes sense.  If it is just a different version of the same box, then the only thing you are gaining is a better selection of rear end gear ratios (via a standard truck rear end).

The ring and pinion in an Eagle is generally not an issue.  That said, I lost one.

It would take a pretty good effort to fabricate a mounting system and I think the space in that area would make matters worse.
