Most Canadian Walmarts around here carry 40W CF2 oil in a 20 L pail for $47 (on sale) to $60. 4 L jugs for around $18. Does anyone know who makes it for them?

I've researched this before and everything I came up with was that it's Pennzoil / Quaker State. I use it in my snowmobiles and my cars. Saves me lots of money and I've never had issues that were oil related.

I've used it a couple of times, it seemed fine to me. It's very available down here, maybe because some of the boats still run the two strokes. I just saw an analysis of their 15W-40, and it was very low (under 700) on ZDDP, and had zero boron, another high pressure/extreme pressure additive, so I would not use it in place of Rotella for your modern diesel pickup truck.

I think they use whatever is available or lowest price.
I compare the jugs to try to guess, but in the long run it doesn't matter because it all comes down the same pipeline!!
Brand differences are a joke on the public.
Gus, this is true for gasoline and diesel fuel. For example, here in Western Canada, the refineries are mostly in Edmonton. From there, the product is piped to Calgary, Kamloops and Burnaby near Vancouver. They all share the same pipe lines. The proprietary additives are added at the rack when the trucker puts in the card of the brand he is loading for his trip.
Engine oil, however, is made and bottled by the branded refiners. They all have their proprietary formulas, and are quite proud of them. They, of course, make and bottle oil for other retailers such as Walmart, with that retailer's logo on the container. Engine oil doesn't go down a pipe line.
I just wondered who makes Walmart's. I have been using their 40W CF2 in my bus lately, with no ill effects so far. It is cheaper than I can buy Petrocan's wholesale. We are a Petro-Canada retailer.

I used the Walmart 40WCF2 in 8V71,s, 8V92 and 6V92. Never had a problem.
If you send oil in to a good analysis shop, they can tell you what brand it is based on the analysis, so I don't think the idea that it all comes from the same pipeline so it's all the same holds water. I sent in a sample that was 80% Rotella, 20% left-over Walmart and said it was Rotella. First comment back was "this is not Rotella"... Mind you it was also 10% diesel... :(

I checked with my resources at W/M the CF in Canada is bought from Conoco/Phillps he has no idea who packages it there only it is Conoco/Phillips specs and packaged in Canada my understanding is it is the Conoco T5X oil
My feeling is that any brand of CF2 today, is better than the best was 40 years ago. So, as long as it is rated for DD 2 stroke, how can you go wrong? I was just curious about who makes Walmart's.

I have used only WalMart CF2 30 & ( 40 bought when in Canada) for ever & never had a problem. 06 Bill
Which brings up another point, it is a mystery why WM sells 40W in Canada and all I can ever find here is 30W - which is OK for winter, but it would be nice if they carried 40 also.
Asked my moms brother whom works for Shell , he said Shell has been there supplier on several accasions over the years . Ive used walmart sae 40 in the summer and 30 in the winter in our 871 and 892 for years no issues .
I have saw it bottled in Sun Oil company bottling plant in Tulsa also along with Havoline,Motorcraft and other brands it really ticked me off then you could buy the Walmart brand for .50 cents a qt and I was paying $1.85 for the MotorCraft for my pickup
So apparently not all oil is oil and some Big Box stores MAY be cutting, (literally) their brand? "This is NOT R....". "10% diesel fuel?" Now that is kinda scary. Yet we are running their stuff with no issues. Considering that some prime standby gen sets have VERY $expensive$ BIG diesel mills powering them, maybe a talk with the house engineer may be enlightening. HB, i think the 10% diesel in the fuel was from his old motor, which is why he now has a new motor. ;D
I think that the definitive answer to the question is that Walmart's oil is made by the low bidder.
Yeah...kinda goes without saying. Also the fact it would appear that lots of Bus Conversion people appear to be using less expensive WW oil with no issues...I should have added...."soos far". The gist I got from the excellent post was that lots of times one gets what one pays for and that sometimes it may be better to buy that regular brand name. Base stocks are pretty much the same with all oil packaging operations, the real question is who is making the additive package and keeping the very best for their own brand.
Find out who has the contracts for factory fills and you will have your answer...Chevron and Mobil come to mind....who has the biggest research facility....
I've used Wal Mart transmission fluid in my V730 for years.
