I need some help from the Allison experts. I did a service on my trans today and three small aluminum ears were floating around in the pan. They were all broken the same. Not much other debris, where the heck did they come from? I took a picture of them but can't get it to post for some reason. Thanks for any help
Came from the US mint!... Sorry couldn't resist. :D
wow not good to find pieces of gear teeth which those look like. May be from your tail gears splines, I'm just guessing but is definitely good you have them out. Do you have any problems you have noticed with shifting or noises?.

No, no noises. It functions pretty well but has a bit of a lazy shift between 2-3. That is what prompted me to do a service and see what was in the pan. They are not gear teeth, look to be some kind of a dog off an aluminum part.
They appear to be SAWED off, not broken off.>>>Dan
sounds like they may be part of the second gear area
No they are not sawed off, the piece on the left in the pic shows broken off and all three are the same. The area that looks sawed is a machine finish.
Might try to email the pics to AZ Transmission they can tell you.
That's a good idea, thanks for the suggestion.
sorry to say but those are out of a clutch pac. Probably the forward clutch,

That's what they look like to me too. :( Here's a shot of what we might be seeing?? Not a tranny expert:

It looks like the drive hub between the forward pack and the fourth gear clutch pack it a cast aluminum with the same look of the plates
Looks like I'll be tearing it down sooner than later. Broken pieces floating around in a trans is never good. Thanks for the replies.
