The Grand Canyon Caverns is hosting a bus conversions rally May 17 to 19th. They have hook ups for the first 70 registered. Fees are only $20 to register, motel rooms available, Saturday night BBQ with western band on stage in the RV park, Old car show on Saturday and a Rodeo is planned for Sunday. Great quiet RV park on Roue 66 in Northern AZ. Call the Caverns at 928 422 3223 to book a RV space or motel room or to register. Will be fun!
Thanks
What is the total cost Mikey 20 bucks doesn't sound right ,It will be a treat for me getting to see old friends from the past rallies of the Bus Conversion world that will attend that one thank you it will a good time of the year also warm days and cool nights there
Clifford, that will be a good time of the year. Looking for an excuse to go out and add some bugs to our new front bumpers ;)! Twenty bucs for a rally sounds cheap enough ;D
Van 8)
Better add a little to the 20 bucks Van lol I don't think that will happen
The way I read the ad in BCM it says ---Rally Rate $20.00 per PERSON (includes T-shirt)
---RV Spaces $30.00 (doesn't say if it's per day or not) w/hook-ups
Must mention bus rally to get that rate
--- Meals -- Dinner Saturday $20.00
Breakfast Sunday $15.00
So I guess it is $20.00 except for ?????
Here's the way I see it - I'm looking at the advertiser that came out with the latest fantastic issue of Bus Conversions Magazine. ;D
Car Registration ( we're not car showing,) $0
Bus show Registration. ( we may want to show our bus) $20
Exhibit space.. probably not.
Bus RV Parking - RV Hook up $30
Barbeque Saturday night , $20 per person. Like to eat, so .. $40
Breakfast Buffet $15 per person, still like to eat, so $30
Total we would pay. $120
We're probably going to be there - especially since we are almost right down the street from the Caverns. :D
Kind Regards, Phil
K, I've let 'em know we are coming & getting registration stuff going. :D
Hope to see some bus friends there as well! This will be our second rally. Maybe I'll bring the Doghouse (bass) if any bluegrass folk will be doing the same? Gary from Bus Conversions Magazine is planning on being there as well.
Kind Regards, Phil
Sounds like the word is getting out. Yes the Rally fees are $20, then if you want meals etc. you ad on, and the RV space fee is per night.
Trying this why so people do not have to buy anything they do not want. Hope to make it a fun weekend for all attending.
Thanks for spreading the word and calling in reservations so we can keep a bus and head count.
928 422 3223 Caverns
People are booking spaces and rooms at the Cavern for the bus rally. Going to be fun. Will be nice to see Phil Lyons there with his Moosecreek bus and Gary, the new publisher of Bus Conversions Magazine. To clear up the cost, it's $20 to register, then if you want a room or RV spot, or meals, you pay as you go. The palce has a restraunt, so you can really eat whenever and however you want or join the group.
928 422 3223 is the Caverns number to reserve it.
I just registered to attend. I'm getting there on Thurs May 16 and leaving Mon May 20. With the extra day, registration, 4 nights x $30/night, plus the dinner and breakfast, before tax is $210. Will be in space 23.
Hope to see you all there!
Good Luck, TomC
Yea! ;D Tom I have enjoyed & learned from your posts for literally years - Looking forward to meeting you in person.
Kind Regards, Phil
:) :) :)
Darn finally having one there again, just a 100 miles from home, and we will miss it. We leave on May 12 for the 25th anual Run For The Wall motorcycle mission.
Hey all,
I'm trying hard to see if I can at least stop by on Tuesday on my way from Phoenix to Vegas. How many folks will be around late morning on Tuesday? Wish I would've known earlier that this was happening I would've tried to make it work.
Still might happen, just depends on how fast I can get my work done
Rick
A bus nut friend of mine called The Caverns yesterday and found out the Cavern's is cancelling the rally, citing low registrations and internal issues with one of owners of The Caverns. The Caverns are refunding camping fees for anyone requesting them. Those who want to come anyway and have an informal gathering are welcome to do so. There just won't be any formal rally activities.
They will be officially communicating this cancellation to the folks at BCM so that they can put out a cancellation notice on this site and perhaps by email. It would be too late now to put it in a magazine.
I emailed Gary last night. Based on his reply he has not been contacted by The Caverns yet. He or Phil will call them today. Gary is very disappointed the rally is cancelled. This was going to be the first rally he could attend and meet subscribers and forum members face to face. In view of the cancellation, Gary and Phil will be cancelling their reservations.
Gary also said that he is considering looking into another location to hold an actual BCM rally later this year.
Laughlin Nev in the fall Gary on the river then you catch all the Canadian bus people on the way down south, the Riverside will work with you somebody piss Mikey off ::)
Sad part about this rally there was so little information it wasn't even in the calendar section here that I could find, for a successful rally you need to do like Tom did with his GM rally in AR get the word out he used about every forum on the net that would allow it
good luck
Bummer! But, I agree with Clifford-the first Busconversions get together I went to was in Laughlin at the Riverside resort in 1995. All I had in my bus was my rear bed, bathroom, with some of the electrical and plumbing done. I sat in a lawn chair and had my coffee maker, hot plate, microwave and chest freezer on the floor. Was really fun. They had the factory reps from both Prevost and MCI there with their bus conversion shells. Also had a big tent set up with many vendors. Had close to 100 buses there. Would be great to duplicate that get together again-but now with my bus done. Good Luck, TomC
Talked w/ Caverns. Definitely cancelled. :( was looking forward to meeting many face to face on the West Coast - after we just moved here from Northern Illinois. I'm on the hunt for a rally out here. Maybe another time. The office was helpful and no problem receiving the refund. Hope it wasn't cancelled 'cause I said I'd bring my String Bass and would play some bluegrass. Wouldn't be the first time something like that happened. :D ;D
Thanks all, Phil
Hi All, why can't. We just turn this into an NRG, I thought it was anyway, would like to meet you all, lvmci...
Actual Phil, that is the reason (LOL)!
Ack! My reputation precedes me. :( :D ;D
NRG, maybe.. I've already rescheduled for those days, but, , a little bit later in the year I am totally up for that... Would be great. Wife and I would be on board. Plus one Moose Bus. Won't bring up the bass this time though. Not me. No large doghouse bass. That is for sure. ;D
Kind Regards, Phil
We already made plans to be at the Caverns the 21st of May. We are planning an off road trip to the Colorado river for lunch. But we'll be back for the party and tire kicking.
--Geoff and Sherry
How many others gonna be there anyway? Let's make it a NRG, lvmci...
We at BCM are all very sorry about the cancelling of Caverns Rally. And even though were weren't the organizers, we were excited at the prospect of attending the Caverns Rally and supporting it with magazine and web ads. We hope those of you that do decide to still go, have a great time. I would like go too, but there is a lot going on and I really need to be here to keep things moving in a positive direction.
I'll be there. The opportunity to meet one or 20 bus nuts is always rewarding.
--Geoff
Tom C and Phil and any others, I hope you guys can make it, if you were already planning it why not! Lvmci...
We won't be coming I was just hoping to see some of the older bus people from the past that don't post any longer I have already saw Geoff this year 1 down and many to go lol
This whole subject has me upset. I did not realize that this was an MAK rally as opposed to a Bus Conversion Magazine rally.
I have a bit of insight to the business dealings between MAK and the last two owner groups and the picture is not pretty.
I think the idea of a NRG is fine, but I would not pay a fee to support MAK and his ownership of the Caverns. There are other campgrounds that would appreciate your money and have better facilities.
Sorry that this is less than politically correct, but this whole thing stinks.
Jim
My heart goes out to those who have planned to be there. I have been working diligently to prep a few busnuts coaches that were planning on attending this rally specifically, Had to drop the bad news on them yesterday(these folks do not frequent the bus boards),and it was quite a let down for them after putting down a significant amount of coin to get these coach's ready for the rally. So that being said, I am sure that others will be sharing the same amount of disappointment about this cancellation.
Cheryl and I were waiting for me to have some free time to prep our bus (2 Hydraulic lines) before committing taking the bus to the rally and would still have showed up with or with out the bus to come meet with fellow busnuts.
As we all know, busnuts can be pretty resourcfull, I can only suggest for those that have made plans is to pick an alternate site to meet and have a great time despite it all! We won't be attending the Mak rally now but might just regroup at our favorite water hole, the Lake meade RV Village here in southern Nevada http://lakemeadrvvillage.com/ (http://lakemeadrvvillage.com/) , anyone interested? just say the word! I'm sure I can arrange a tour and impromptu lunch at B&B Coach for those interested in what we've been up to regarding slide outs ;) ;D
All the Best!
:) Van and Cheryl :)

I don't know why you all arn't going anyway, who cares about the formal rally activities , you guys can save the 20 buck rally fee and make your own dam party, seems like a bunch of bus people getting togather and visting should make for a good time, let alone just getting out and driving your buses.
I wasn't plan on paying the 20 bucks Matt I don't much care for place not like it is a 4 or 5 star resort when Mikey is involved always something lol
Years back he was trying to do a FMCA chapter for BCM it never materialized Mike has done more to advance the bus conversion as some call a hobby than anybody around but there was always something in it for him
I think the place sucks, but if we was as close as some people we would be there, should be more about the people and the buses, JMHO
With the price of fuel, seems like alot of bus people just not driveing anywhere without a reason, so now they got one but are backing out because they can't get a teeshirt?
Being from L.A., The Caverns would be a 720mi round trip for me-that would easily be over $500.00 just in fuel. I don't think I'll be attending. If it were in Laughlin, Nv-I would come anyway-lots to do. But at the Caverns-not much to do without the activities of the get together.
Maybe someone will organize another west coast get together without all the politics and feet stomping that has gone on with the Caverns. Good Luck, TomC
Hi All, looks like I'm backing also, work, Tom C need to talk to you about bus maintainance, when I'm in LA, lvmci...
Wife sez no to cancelling. I guess we'll be in space 29.
Update: Wife changes mind again, now she says lets save the fuel money for something better. So we'll be staying home.
--Geoff
I had cancelled my reservation upon hearing the news about the rally. But, I still wanna get away, So we're going to come up early on Friday and stay the night. We'll head out on Sat to visit some friends in CA. I don't have a spot reserved yet, But I'll be somewhere in the RV Park.
Not coming, not enough to do there. Not real thrilled with the place. Better use of fuel elsewhere. Liked the early conventions like - Vegas - Primm - Laughlin . Oh well.
Need a Good west coast rally or convention - seems like the east and florida have all the fun!
