What are folks using for antennas for their onboard Direct TV systems?
We don't require one that can be used while underway...it would be cool if not TOO much more... ;)

We started out with a standard house satelite mounted on a tripod. It seems it was either getting run over or blown down. I finally had enough and bought a Tracvision R6ST. It is an in-motion system that cost about $1800.00. It does not get Hi-Def with direct TV. It will with Dish Network. Install was fairly straight forward. We did make a couple of spacers to put under the dish to get it sit level. I have only had it on a month or so. so far so good.
We have had good luck with our Dish tailgater but it has it's flaws. Easy to setup. Times itself out every 4 hours unless you are changing channels during that time. Probably more of a weekender than a full time unit.

I had both a mounted King Dome (stationary not in motion) and a tripod mounted one. Neither one is "best" if somewhere for a short time, I did not want to set up the tripod, but there was a tree blocking the King Dome. It is really a lose lose situation.
With some careful shopping a Kind Dome can be picked up reasonable, refurbished or used.
The tripod mounted full dish does seem to get less loss of signal than the roof mount.
Win win would be to quit watching tv, I often wonder why I don't? JIm
We have had a Winegard semi automatic dish. They are a pain to find the signal. You have to know where you are and tell it. We have a Winegard automatic in motion. Works great, takes about a minute to find the signal. We also have a KVH flat dish, in motion. Always finds the signal really fast. Bad news, a little fog and it is done. Two rain drops and it is done. Does work great going down the road. We like the Winegard in motion best. We carry a HD dish we can use on the ground when there isn't any other access to signal.

I have a King Dome that we used the first couple of years we fulltimed. When i found out that i had to go back to work, :( we were in 2 different rv parks where we were under a lot of trees so i had to use a tripod mounted dish. After awhile i took the dome off and put it in our storage unit in Yuma. Now that i am no longer working i am not going to put it back on when we get to Yuma this fall as i am so used to the tripod anymore.
So Ed... Might you wanna sell that King Dome?

You have many options as discribed above.
You need to figure out what conditions you will encounter. Lots of trees?
Wide open spaces? or both..
Less hastles-
1-A sat dome with built in GPS will find the bird within 7 seconds. One without
could take lots of manual tries to locate the proper bird.
2- A dome with a built in micro heater to dry up morning dew. The dew could
cause picture freezes or distorted pictures until the sun dries up the moisture.
3- A sat dome with in-motion tracking will enable you to view pictures while
traveling down thye road.
I deal with KVH which provides all three.
The R6 has GPS and the micro heater and R6DX is their in-motion model with all the above.

Dave, yes i have been thinking of selling it after we get back to Yuma. Should be there by Nov. 1st at the latest.
I have directv at home and the same in the bus. The bus has a large auto-seeking winegard dish on it that gets the same HD channels on it that I get at home. I thought I wanted to replace it with an in-motion dome, but after using it decided I love having the HD capabilities. Directv only charges for the extra receivers.
