Title: Bought new Speedhut Gauges
Post by: hargreaves on September 24, 2012, 08:45:14 AM
Yahoo, I finally get to actually see what my gauges are reading.  My 87 102A3 had horrible gauges I don't know how anybody driving these things for a living was able to read them.

Anyway I purchased some Speedhut gauges and can hardly wait to install them .

One question I have is about the Fuel gauge, It requires a sender that is 300 ohms or less. Does anyone know what the ohm reading is on a 102A3 ?    Cheers Gerry

I did not realize Speedhut sold 24-volt gauges.  Did you have to custom-order these?

Sean, they are 12 volt gauges, the only one that is 24 volt is the volt gauge.  I am using 12v to light them and feed the sensors.  Cheers   Gerry

Wow, those gauges look great.. Made in USA.  Bookmarking that one for a temp gauge upgrade.  The 1/4" between 190 and 240 on my stock gauge just isn't enough information.  I snapped this pic when pulling a hill recently.. Fortunately I was about to crest it.  It has brought me much paranoia.

Gerry
I just purchased a speedo and tach from speedhut that look exactly like yours.  Just returned home form a 2000 mile trip with a couple of 11000ft plus mountain passes and I really liked the elevation reading on the speedo. I am going to buy the rest of my gauges but was dissipointed when the tech at speedhut told me that they could not do a 24v voltmeter. I see by your picture that they can, could you send me the part # or any information that would be helpful in ordering one? Did you do a EGT gauge?
Thanks

Hi Doug, I just ordered the 12v voltmeter and left a note in the special request area and asked for a 28 volt gauge.  Aaron called me and  said they will make the gauge a 32 volt face and I said sure .  they also made my speedo in Kilometers.  Cheers  Gerry

How do you drive the tach?  My current one is mechanical cable drive, which obviously won't work.

You won't be able to have a gauge anymore, if you swap your gauges. Probably the best would be to route the cable to a handy place on the dash, with the end exposed. They tie a piece of string to the exposed end. When you need to know what your RPMs are, simply count the number of revs that string is making. If you can't look at it, simply place your finger on the end and count that way.

KISS, buddy.

John

ROFL, and YES, I am joking. I just couldn't help myself.

John that wouldn't be any more inaccurate than looking at the current gauge!  I had read of some tachs being ran off a terminal on the alternator, but mine is just a standard 12v large frame truck alternator, so I don't know if that's possible with what I have.

I bought sealed gauges from Datcon when I replaced my gauges.  The dust from the desert was getting inside the gauges and making them hard to read.

Hi Rick, I am running the Tach off the alternator relay terminal.  using the existing wiring that was running my old tach.   Cheers   Gerry
