Any suggestions on the best way to prime a Proheat X45? My thinking is to disconnect the fuel line at the pickup and inject fuel into the line with a squeeze bottle. I have a fuel filter at the heater that I would crack open.
This is a complete new install that has never had fuel in it.
Hi Brian, I just spliced a marine priming bulb into the fuel line. A few squeezes, and away you go.

I have a marine priming bulb, but not sure I would trust it long term as I purposely bought a cheap one for a short term need.
If I can find my bulb I'll at least use it to prime the line. Thanks for the idea!
This is what my XL-900 manual says on the subject - I believe your X45 is the same unit, just newer.
"If the indicator lamp in the ON/OFF swiitch flashes upon initial start up - wait. The heater will attempt a re-start in 3 minutes. In some cases it takes longer for the fuel pump to prime the empty fuel lines during the initial start. This is usually the case if the fuel lines are long. If the light continues to flash after the re-start then there is a problem."
The ProHeat has an inline fuel pump in it. The one on mine looks the like an aftermarket inline gasoline pump. I'd like to see the lines primed for the initial start but I wouldn't sweat getting it perfect. I think it will purge itself when it starts.
Several people said the X45 would self prime so I didn't end up priming the line. The X45 lit up right away the first time, but I think it was burning fuel from the fuel filter. The second time the flame lit, but it went out right away. The third time I powered it up the flame lit and it stayed lit for a few minutes until I turned it off.
It appears that it did self prime itself.
