Title: Eagle 12v Pump
Post by: Seangie on August 29, 2012, 12:12:25 PM
Hey Guys - Replacing a 12v pump on my Eagle 10s.  I need to know what the 2 bolts are?  I figure it might be to help prime the pump?  Should they be bolted down or loosened up?

Thanks

-Sean

Those are not bolts they are plugs to tie the back passenger heater into if equipped with one you really don't need that pump on a converted coach those heaters were over 100,000 btu's for a passenger coach

That is a booster pump a cheap Marsh circulation pump will do the same with less amps and for less dollars JMO

good luck

Cliff,

I thought I got this one cheap at 125.00.

But it sounded like this when it started up.

I am assuming it needs a new impeller blade.  Anyplace to get them?  Might that not be the issue?  Should I just get a new pump?

It is being used in my coach to pull hot water from the engine down to the heat exchange when the engine is off but still hot enough to heat the water tank or to pull hot water from the heat exchanger back into the engine (the exchanger will be connected to the webasto system and the hot water tank)  on cold start days.

Not a priority but wanted to get it replaced before the flooring went down.  Kills me as it took half my day today and I paid 125 plus 40 or 50 for shipping.  Don't care about the money so much as i just want to be done with this.

Where should I look locally for a hot water pump with 1" connectors?  Would NAPA or WEST Marine, any marine store (we are in a port city) carry a march pump?  Do you know a model number?

Sorry this is rushed... I'm running out the door as I type this.  Thanks for all your help.  This is just one of thousands of thanks I owe you.

You don't need to pay big bucks for the brass head the plastic heads last just as long

Sean, sorry that this isn't directly helpful but I've found NAPA to be slightly expensive and WEST Marine to be exorbitantly so -- like about everything with "Marine" in the title. I've bought many things at a high price because only one place in town has it and I need it immediately or the project gets derailed, but try to find what you need at places other than West.  I will admit that NAPA usually stocks lots of stuff -- although they charge a shipping fee to get it to a store if it's not in stock.

Thanks Bruce.

So far Ive tried howard RV, Napa and Grainger.  Nothing under 200 yet.  No stores that sell solar here in wilmington.

If anyone has a 12v pump laying around and needs to make room for some other project....

Another option  -  if you have a school bus knackers yard nearby, see if you can get a coolant pump from a "previously-enjoyed" school bus.   I have a 12-volt Kysor pump in my bus that pushes coolant to the center heater and front heater/defroster.

John - Good Idea.  We have a Truck/Heavy Machinery Salvage here that I am going to check out tomorrow if switching the +/- doesn't work.

They have a few school buses parked up there as well.

I have the cheap 12v booster pump with a switch on the dash.  I normally don't need to use it unless it gets much below 40.  Good Luck, TomC

Sean, Jefferson bus in OK City is always looking for pumps that can be rebuilt. Give them a call and see if they will buy your core.

Cliff - Checked it tonight - It was hooked up correctly, I tried reversing and it didnt make a difference.

Rusty - I will call them and see.  I have 2 of these pumps not working.  I am thinking I may have enough parts between the two to get a working pump but if I can get 75$ for both cores maybe I'll just buy a new pump from the electronic yardsale in the sky.

Tom - I agree.  I don't think I will use it but maybe once or twice in the life of the coach.  But I know if I don't replace it now that it's a sure sign at some point in the next 6 months I will be in sub-zero temps somewhere tearing apart the floor with bloody fingers and cursing up and down.

I've taken a few apart and found either worn bearings, brushes, or debris caught up in the input or output of the pump. In most cases easily repaired and refurbished. Cheap enough to re-do, as new they can be quite pricey to replace with similar quality units or the up dated versions from MP PUMPS in the great state if Michigan (the original Mfg.). Heres a link

I currently have one (refurbished) in my stock that I have slated for a future project of mine, otherwise You could have this one :) . So grab your favorite screw driver, and have at it, you might be surprised!  ;D ;D

All the best!
