Title: Bus crash near ST. LOUIS
Post by: 5B Steve on August 02, 2012, 02:54:42 PM

Just saw the news here in Indianapolis, the showed a really bad crash in the St. Louis area. A bus company

by the name of MEGA BUS hit a bridge upright. From the shot above it looked like what it hit was about to fall.

A lot of injuries reported.  Pray for all.

How in the hell did he a bridge up right when you said Mega Bus I knew they ran double deckers and I was thinking when you posted this he hit beam on a low bridge

Hitting a upright the bus will lose every time they don't move the deck may fall but the upright will be there

In other articles on google they mentioned a possible blown tire.

Sidebar conversation with a friend who noted those buses use a 17,000 lb. front axle, and 315/80R22.5 Load range L tire only good for 9000 lbs. each.  Load range J in the same tire would be overloaded.  Also must be sure to use 9" rim to get load capacity.  If you use 8.25 " rim, again overloaded.  Megabus uses Firestone FS 400's along with the rest of the Coach USA fleet.

Another side bar tidbit, a little birdie suggested that you might see the newest Van Hool TD925 arriving shortly with two full sets of duals in the rear.

There's only one reason to add more tires...

You might also see them in certain markets NOT loading them to their full 81 passenger capacity...

Enforcement activity?

oh dear...

happy coaching!
