Title: new to me 94 Prevost Oil Change and Transmission fluid change Question
Post by: joe on July 29, 2012, 03:40:14 PM
According to the maintenance records left in the file cabinet by the PO the Oil was changed 5500 miles ago (and 1000 of those were my drive home) but it was last changed in Nov of 09 or almost three years ago. The coach was (I think) started and run a few miles on a regular basis.

Should the oil be changed regardless of miles?

The PO also changed the transmission fluid at the same time, starting the conversion to the synthetic transmission fluid. He told me the instructions were to drive it 10,000 miles and change it again to complete the changeover. Should I go ahead and change the transmission fluid now or should this wait until the 10,000 mile mark?

The coach only has about 98,000 total miles.

I send a sample ever other oil change.  On a new rig, I would send one in before you change the oil.  You will learn a lot and possibly present a lot.  http://www.blackstone-labs.net/ (http://www.blackstone-labs.net/)

Thanks for the link. I assume the antifreeze needs to be checked also. It has been changed in the last 10,000 miles but still more than 3 years ago.  What test other than density should I request?

Not sure on coolant.  All I ever do is get the coolant test strips from Napa.

A Cat dealer in your area can test anything you have and sample kits are about 15 bucks from the Cat dealer they have the best labs in the country
