Title: 295 75 R22.5 on a MCI?
Post by: coachconverter on July 25, 2012, 06:38:55 PM
I had someone ask me if these tires would work on a 96A3, I have no idea.

Anyone know for sure?

Sure they will Todd they came with 12rx22.5 which is about the same size as a 315 x 22/5

but the 315s are much larger than these 295s, but you say both will work?

They run the 295's to keep from changing the rims 295's work on a 8-1/4 rim most 315's use a 9in rim the school here runs the 295's on their MCI's the speedometers are off by about 5mph on the buses and that is about the only problem I know of

Once again-to determine what tire you can use, weigh your bus by axle. Then compare it to the load charts for the size and load rating of that tire. Going from a 12R-22.5, which is 485rpm, you'll go to a 517rpm tire with the 295/75R-22.5.  That means if you're cruising at 1800rpm now, you'll be at 1918rpm with the 295 tires.  I would keep with a 11R-22.5-it is a 500rpm tire.  The loaded radius of the tires are 12R is 19.8", 11R is 19.3", 295 is 18.6".  So going from a 12R to the 295 will lower your bus's ground clearance by 1.2".  Good Luck, TomC
