Two stroke. What exact changes would be necessary? Pistons, sleeves, injectors, rack, governor, turbo, intercooler, etc.. What about other stuff that doesn't come to mind? Would it be $practical$ to buy a reliabilt smog DDEC 4 two stroke Detroit dirt cheap and turn it into a crisp MUI Jake Brake equipped mill? A 525-550 hp 8V92TI comes to mind. All smog laws would apply? Dunno. Oregon motor home. We have zero vehicle emission inspections in our county. HB of CJ (old coot) :) :) :)
Similar here in California-RV's are exempt from smog laws.
To convert from a DDEC to MUI-need to change injectors (not sure if the holes in the head are the same-I'm sure someone will answer), install all the linkage for the rack to operate the injectors, transplant a complete governor setup from another engine along with the gearing off the blower and the linkage to connect to the injector rack. Might have to change cam timing-or even change cam timing. Pistons, liners should be alright to keep.
Personally-I'd not fool with all that-I would completely change the engine out for a good 4 stroke engine like the Cummins ISM (can be tuned to 500hp). Then you'd have an engine that any mechanic can work on. Good Luck, TomC

That rule of thumb could get people in trouble, since RV's aren't exempt because they're RV's. However, it is true that most diesel-powered RV's are exempt for other reasons.

HB give us a little more info like what engine is in the rv now and what type of rv is it. They didn't make very many DDEC IV two-stroke engines, their is however a DDEC II to IV up grade available.
As to your question you need to change the camshafts, injectors, install racks and Governor and may be change the blower depending on which one it now has. If you are going to buy a reliabuilt engine why not just buy an MUI in the first place. are you getting one for almost nothing.
