Hi Lowtide,

My notes show 4234 was originally sold to Continental bus lines.

RJ should chime in soon with the particulars. I am a newbie he is the master of delivery information.

Siberyd

I was hoping RJ will see this, he seems to have the skinny on these buses.

Thanks for the info ;)

Where did C68057 come from, must be a Continental Trailways prefix, or was there a Continental Bus Co also?

My '54 PD4104-1274 was a Trailways bus and didn't have this prefix.

That s/n 234 was really an early one!

Tide -

PD4104-234 was delivered new in July of 1953 as fleet number O-1515 to Overland Greyhound Lines, HQ'd in Omaha, NE.  Most likely, historically, it remained in their fleet until after the summer season of 1963, when 'Hound traditionally sells off older equipment.

No clue where it's been since originally delivered.

The correct VIN for your coach should only be PD4104234.  All else is superfluous and/or some DMV technician somewhere trying to make it work in his/her computer.  17-digit VINS did not exist prior to 1980.  Often takes verification by a police officer or bringing the coach to a DMV office before they'll believe that the VIN is so small.

FWIW & HTH. . .

  RJ,

Here in Indianapolis I looked at one last week.  It is listed on Craigslist with pictures, Harley Davidson interior.

The number on the left, inside said it was 4104-3508 The owner said it was a 1959. Real nice on the inside, and

out with a rebuilt engine and drive train.

Thanks so much for your help, RJ.

I was given the number by the seller. Bus is located in Atlanta and is listed on the B_O classifieds. Just thought I would check the VIN so I can ad it to the list of 4104's that siberyd is collecting.

I would love to have the bus, but we are going to need a 40 footer and we are pretty set on an MCI.

You had given me info on another 4104 a while back and I may just buy it to part it out due to the fact, it has no title, engine could possibly need a head (this is what the seller was told when he bought it, so that is not confirmed, interior in need of a total refit....etc.

The owner is just about giving it away and the Alcoa's could be sold for the asking price of the bus or somewhere near it and the rest of the bus could be parted out.
I really hate to do that, but if we can turn a profit, I may just do it or sell the whole bus and still turn a profit.......will be considering my options ;)

I don't want to see her go to the scrap pile....so to speak.

PD4104-3508 was delivered new in March of 1958 as fleet number M-804 to Missouri, Kansas & Oklahoma Coach Lines, HQ'd in Tulsa, OK.  MK&O is/was a Trailways affiliate, and this was one of a five-bus order.

I for one think you guys should tell Mike the draw backs to owning one of the 4104 or 4106 like brakes and the wiring it's not a bed of roses chasing down parts for both models Luke can just do so much.

I hate to see people buy these old buses not knowing what they are getting into, sure there are some nice 4104's and 4106's people have spent years rebuilding

Red Ryder another Mike has a nice 4106 but he works at it and he has Dan to help with process not a bad deal having Dan on your side either lol

To many parts special to GM only for me and I love the old 4104 and 4106 but there are more late model 35 footers like the Prevost,MCI and Eagles but they have their draw backs also parts is not one though

good luck

Cliff,

We heard from Tom last night with a deal we couldn't refuse ;)

While we like the older model GMC's it's not practical for what we have in mind because we really need a 40 footer.

I sent you a couple of emails about that 4104 we first started looking at. I attached images to remind you of which one it was.

The guy is about giving it away and we considered purchasing it to part it out or to flip it as a whole bus, but that may be more of a hassle then we want to deal with.
I will be starting a thread with images in case someone is interested.

Can you PM me your phone number? I do not have it. My DW deleted the numbers in the caller ID after the last time you called.

Crab cakes......oh boy!

Mike
