Where would one get just a handful of standard zinc plated 1/4-20 flange head bolts? All I can find is grade 8 for 80 cents and I think they didn't have any short enough anyhow. I tried two hardware stores and an auto parts store with no luck. A few of the bolts on my generator are really rusty. I assume they used the flange head serrated so they don't come loose.
I need to go to Fastenal tomorrow anyhow so I will check there. The Fastenal website shows what I need, but it shows they aren't stocked at any local stores.
I buy grade 5 from a welding shop in my area flanged bolts are about 2 times stronger than a bolt, lock washer and flat washer that is why most are used, these guys have it down 1 flanged bolt will cost about the same price as 1 bolt,1 flat washer and 1 lock washer lol
Brian, if you can't find them, try these folks (mail order from Texas). http://www.nappco.com/product.shtml (http://www.nappco.com/product.shtml). If needed, I'll be in the area of their Dallas store later this week, and could pick them up and ship them to you.

I'll probably order from McMaster-Carr if I can't find them at Fastenal. I wish I could find them locally.
Bolt Depot: http://www.boltdepot.com/Machine_screws_Slotted_hex_washer_head_type_F_Zinc_plated_steel_1_4-20.aspx (http://www.boltdepot.com/Machine_screws_Slotted_hex_washer_head_type_F_Zinc_plated_steel_1_4-20.aspx) These ones have thread-cutting tips, but you can cut /grind them off if you don't need them.
Grainger also has some 1/4"-20, but only in 100s or 50s.

I couldn't find them at Bolt Depot the other day when I looked. Fastenal didn't stock them locally so I ordered from McMaster-Carr yesterday. There is a small package delivery company called Spee-Dee Delivery that can get stuff from Chicago to Minneapolis overnight at ground rates. My package is out for delivery right now.
